I am a resident in Rancho Mirage so this does not affect me in any way, other than political. I
oppose their location in Palm Springs from a moral standpoint. They have demonized the
LGBTQ community, financially for quite some time. We are law-abiding tax paying citizens
who did not deserve this kind of bigoted hatred. I feel they should not profit from the
community.
Best, Mary Hudson

Dear Members of the Palm Springs City Council:
My name is Doran J Porter, my spouse and I moved here in 2014 from Hawaii because Palm
Springs is known for their inclusion and their stand against homophobia in its many forms
Fast food chain Chick-fil-A has become synonymous with homophobia — and after millions
in donations to anti-LGBTQ+ groups, it's not hard to see why Chick-fil-A does not belong in
our community.
The chicken restaurant has made headlines going back over a decade for multiple cases of
discrimination against LGBTQ+ employees. Several queer workers told Huffpost in 2012
about the "depressing" comments they've received from customers and coworkers alike.
Almost a decade later in 2022, a transgender woman sued the owner of a franchise in Georgia
for firing her over her gender identity and ignoring repeated reports of sexual harassment.
The company most notoriously has drawn criticism and even boycotts over its millions in
donations to various groups with anti-LGBTQ+ ties, including over $1.7 million in 2009
alone. The highest contributions that year were to Marriage & Family Legacy Fund
($994,199), Fellowship of Christian Athletes ($480,000), National Christian Foundation
($240,000), and Focus on the Family ($12,500).
The Chick-fil-A Foundation donated $1.8 million to three anti-LGBTQ organizations in 2017,
$1,653,416 going to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which enforces a "sexual purity"
policy that bars "homosexual acts." The Salvation Army received $150,000, with the last
$6,000 going to the Paul Anderson Youth Home, which provides housing for troubled youth,
"teaches boys that homosexuality is wrong," and that same-sex marriage is a "rage against
Jesus Christ and his values."
Chick-fil-A gave another $1.65 million to the FCA and $115,000 to The Salvation Army in
2018, before announcing in 2019 that it would cease its donations to the companies, and that
its foundation would only donate to a select few organizations. However, Tim Tassopoulos,
president and chief operating officer of Chick-fil-A, said in the announcement that "no
organization will be excluded from future consideration — faith-based or non-faith-based."
The Human Rights Campaign told The Advocate at the time that while the decision was "an
important step for Chick-fil-A, the company still does not have workplace protections and
policies that are fully inclusive of LGBTQ people." In fact, Chick-fil-A's profits have
continued to fund efforts to block the Equality Act, which would update federal laws to protect
LGBTQ+ people from discrimination in employment, housing, education, credit, and jury
service.

Former CEO Dan Cathy — the son of Chick-fil-A’s founder Truett Cathy who drew ire in
2012 when he told Christian publication The Baptist Press that he believed in the “biblical
definition of the family unit,” signalling his opposition to marriage equality — was revealed
by the Daily Beast in 2021 to be among several Christian billionaires who gave millions to the
National Christian Charitable Foundation (NCF), which has spearheaded the blockage of the
Equality Act.
Chick-fil-A's continued support of anti-LGBTQ+ causes has motivated several colleges and
other locations to cut ties with the company or not allow new franchises at their locations.
However, some lawmakers have opted to take away the rights of businesses and consumers on
behalf of the restaurant by prohibiting them from rejecting Chick-fil-A based on their values.
When the San Antonio City Council in March 2019 rejected a Chick-fil-A for the city's
airport, conservative Texas legislators were so incensed they passed what became known as
the "Save Chick-fil-A Bill," preventing the state or its cities and counties from "punishing"
individuals or businesses because of their membership in or donations to religious
organizations, including anti-LGBTQ+ ones. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed it into law
that June.
I do not think Chick-fil-A has a place in our community or in any society that advocates
insurance information for equality and diversity. Please send a message and deny this
application to open a facility within our community.
Respectfully submitted by,
Doran j. Porter

As a gay married man who recently moved to Palm Springs, one of the main reasons for moving here is the strong
vibrant LGBTQ+ community in Palm Springs. With that said, I am strongly opposed to having this move forward for
many reasons which include the open hostility towards the LGBTQ+ community by Chick fil A. I do not eat at a Chick
fil A and encourage others to boycott them as well. Palm Springs is a refuge and place of inclusion for everyone and
businesses that do not espouse supporting the LGBTQ+ community should not be able to profit from the citizens of
Palm Springs. Another reason for not allowing them to build here is the intersection of Gene Autry and Ramon is
already a nightmare to navigate. The traffic congestion and added environmental impact would be significant and
not sustainable for our community. I urge the commission to not approve Chick fil A's request for a conditional use
permit. Thank you.
Thank you,

I disagree with the opposition of the "gay community" against the opening of a Chick-fil-A in Palm Springs. I am a gay
person and though I recognize that the company has views on our community I also see the strength they bring to a
community both from a choice of dining and economic benefit. I think it is important to know that they are owned
independently and that they have at times been very supportive of the gay community. You may recall that the
morning following the Pulse Club shooting in Orlando they opened up to feed the first responders, family members
and people donating blood. Actually several of their locations in the area opened that Sunday morning and the
employees dedicated their time and services. We must always remember that fighting for rights and freedom
include also diversity on our part of acceptance of others and their beliefs. It is also important that we show
tolerance toward others. I believe they will be a great asset to the communities of Palm Springs.

Mayor Bernstein -
I oppose this project as proposed because of
1) the 3-lane drive through with 49 cars idling. Really? How can this be a serious
proposal? Like Starbucks, these national companies are tone deaf to local
concerns about air quality and congestion.
2) the repugnant anti-gay history of the company and the overexposure of
chickens tenders in Palm Springs
But seriously we can’t deny them for their bad politics but we can make them
reduce and modify this proposal.

I’d like to voice my opinion to NOT allow a Chick Fil a.
My reason is because they use styrofoam containers and don’t care about the environment in any way. I won’t go
there for that reason.

I would like to object to the installation of a bigoted chicken fast food restaurant on Ramon and Gene Autry Trail. I
can't count how many of my friends in Palm Springs are gay couples and this kind of business do not belong in Palm
Springs, of all places! Recently there have been a lot of concerns about discrimination and tolerance and accepting
this would be a step in the wrong direction.

Chik fil a is a company that will not support or improve the Palm Springs community. Their history shows a disregard
for inclusion and diversity and it would be a detriment to the city to champion this business as part of the city. I
would never patronize or support this business and urge the city veto the plan for redevelopment with this project.

I do not support the proposed Chic-fil-A project in Palm Springs at the intersection of Ramon and Gene Autry. Chic-
fil-A is well known to support anti-LGBTQ+ initiatives and has no place in PS, an openly LGBTQ+ friendly community.
It’s incredibly tone deaf for the company to even consider opening a location in Palm Springs.

A Case Against Chick-fil-A in Our City Chick-fil-A's Controversial Stance While Chick-fil-A is known for its chicken
sandwiches, it's also notorious for its history of donating to organizations with anti-LGBTQ+ views. This association
raises significant concerns for many individuals and communities who value inclusivity and equality. Why This
Matters to Our City * Community Values: Our city prides itself on diversity, tolerance, and acceptance. Chick-fil-A's
stance directly contradicts these core values. * Economic Impact: While the restaurant may bring initial economic
benefits, it could also alienate a significant portion of the population, leading to long-term negative consequences. *
Moral Implications: Supporting a business with such a controversial history can be seen as tacit approval of
discriminatory practices. A More Inclusive Future By choosing not to allow Chick-fil-A to open in our city, we send a
strong message that we prioritize a welcoming and inclusive environment.

I wish to comment on the Planning Commission's agenda item regarding Chick-fil-A. I
am a gay resident of Palm Springs. I think it is wrong to potentially deny approval of
the project solely on political reasons. Diversity and inclusiveness mean just that--
diversity of view points and inclusive of all people regardless of their political views.
We need to build bridges across people holding diverse viewpoints, not build walls
dividing us even more. There is no need for the City of PS to make a statement
regarding whatever charities the owners of Chick-fil-A happens to support. Let's allow
a new business into our community to provide citizens with eating options and to
create more jobs. Please allow this project to go forward. The time in now for
freedom of speech, true diversity and true inclusiveness...not for more divisiveness. If
someone does not want to patronize the restaurant, they can stay away. It is not the
City's role to dictate political correctness.
Thank you for listening

Re: Chick-fil-A desiring a PS location: NO. The company has a well-documented history of anti-LGBTQ activism. Palm
Springs takes pride in being an inclusive city; accepting another CFA (especially one so close to the Palm Desert
location) sends a very unwelcoming message to the gay community. Considering the results of the recent
presidential election and all of the anti-gay bills in effect, more of which will undoubtedly be passed in the near
future, the community does not need another slap in the face.

I was just now aware that the proposed Chick-fil-A being allowed to open in Palm Springs. I am totally against this
business being within the City Palm Springs. I have never liked the company. I am from Louisiana and had that
company treat so many friends badly and of course fired them for being gay. The traffic will be a nightmare. When

Please consider the demographics of the population you serve. To permit Chik-fil-A to join our restaurant family in

I am opposed to the proposed Chik-Fil-A at Ramon and Gene Autry. That intersection and surrounding area is
already stressed by traffic. Adding a drive-thru restaurant would add to the problem. There is already a chicken
drive-thru restaurant a block away, and that traffic gets snarled often. Finally, Chik-Fil-A has a terrible human rights
reputation that has no place in Palm Springs.

Dear Council Members, I am a proud long-term resident of Palm Springs and I am immensely proud of our diversity
and inclusion-focused policies and culture. I am adamantly opposed to allowing a recognized anti-LBBTQ company
(Chick-fil-A) to take residence in our community. We need to stand for our values and against intolerance. That’s
why I live here and vote you to represent our community interests.

No! We need to send a message that Palm Springs doesn’t want intolerant businesses in the city. Besides, a 3 lane

Regarding the Chick-fil-A application. I am in favor of the business, regardless of the owners expression of personal
opinions, which is freedom of speech. Also compared to the large warehouse recently approved in North Palm
Springs, I feel this store brings consumer value to our city. The location is well suited to manage traffic, which is
much less onerous than the expected significant semi-truck traffic for the warehouse. A new food location that is
know for quality food at fair prices would be a nice addition. Thank You.

The planning commission should evaluate the Chick-fil-A project based solely on objective criteria, such as the
company's proven business model and its potential economic benefits to the community. Personal beliefs about the
company's stance on social issues should not influence the decision-making process. If individuals disagree with
Chick-fil-A's beliefs, they have the option to not patronize the business. It is important to respect diverse opinions
and allow the market to reflect consumer preferences without imposing restrictions based on ideological
differences.

I strongly object to the approval of a Chick-fil-A at the corner of Gene Autry and Ramon. Chick-fil-A has proven itself
to be an enemy of the LGBTQ community, a significant percentage of the population of Palm Springs. Additionally,
the intersection of Ramon and Gene Autry is a VERY busy one, and the introduction of a 3-lane drive-thru will only
add to the congestion. Please do not allow business interests to win out over community interests.

I am opposed to Chick fil a coming to Palm Springs. First and foremost their well known opposition to LGBTQ rights…
this is especially important here where a significant portion of our community is part of the LGBTQ community.
Secondly, adding more traffic congestion to that area is a dangerous idea.

It is a slap in the face to the Palm Springs community to approve a restaurant owned by people who demonize the
people who live here. Why you would approve a business owned by people who hate LGBTQI+ people, trans people,
drag queens, and Jews? We are fighting Christian Nationalists and you invite them into the city? Shame on you.

Chick-fil-a is big in Charlotte, my previous home. In addition to their anti-LGBTQ views, they do cause tremendous

No Chick Fil A in Palm Springs! Having the restaurant located at Ramon Road will cause major traffic issues. I see
other Chick Fil restaurants having 25 plus cars strung out around the building. Also, Palm Springs is known for locally
owned businesses not chain stores. Also, Chick Fil A has discriminated against the LGBTQI communities for many
years. Let's remember half the population in Palm Springs is LGBTQI.

As a gay man, I don’t like the anti-gay history of the this company. However, we should not try to limit or restrict
businesses. Everyone should be able to choose where they spend their money. How would LGBTQ people feel if a
business that supports us was restricted in Palm Desert?

It is my opinion that a Chick-fil-a restaurant in the proposed location at Ramon and Gene Autry could cause
significant traffic issues. Also, I don’t believe this business reflects the people and values of Palm Springs residents .
We don’t need this in our city. At a time when there may be heightened concern about LGBTQ + rights and issues;
we do not need a business with ties to anti- LGBTQ+ values. There are plenty of other places in town to get chicken.
Thank you.

I am against the approval of the Chick-fil-A restaurant because the company's anti-LGBTQ history goes against
everything we stand for in Palm Springs. Additionally, it would be an offensive reminder to me every time I drove by
it. It's bad enough that we got Trump. The last thing we need is a Chick-fil-A in our backyard.

We ask that you approved teh Chick-Filet restaurant. It is the perfect location in an underused shoping center
location. Will not impact street traffic and will offer some revitalization to the center and other stores. It is why this
shopping center was developed...to handle these types of establishments. And as a gay man, I can choose whether
to visit the restaurant if I have political reasons. But I do not have the right to deny this option to others.

I don't believe the corner of Gene Autry and Ramon is a good location for this new restaurant Chick-Fil-A with a
three lane drive through. The area is already quite busy and having the increased traffic from this doesn't fit into the
Palm Springs vibe. There is plenty of traffic as it is with Home Depot, the new Sprouts, etc.
Thank you,

Politics aside with the culture of Chick-Fil-A, please stop this nonsense. How many more chain fast food restaurants
does the valley need? And demolishing a building to rebuild? Talk about waste? Find another location they can take
over and modify. Do we really insist on destroying and rebuilding all for fried chicken. The traffic in this area is
horrendous and there's already a chicken joint across the street. Health matters and we have too much crappy food
here already - we don't need more!

I cannot object more strongly to the proposed Chick-Fil-A in Palm Springs. How can a city that is so openly
welcoming to members of the LGBTQ+ community simultaneously welcome an organization that whose leadership
has historically spoken out against and supported organizations that deny these residents’ rights? This is the height
of hypocrisy, Palm Springs, and tarnishes our hard-earned reputation as a place of inclusivity for all. The company’s
initiatives since 2019 are not a band aid for its inherent religious conservatism and built in bias towards
heteronormativity. As a strong ally of the LGBTQ+ community I will not patronize the restaurant, if approved, and
will urge others to do the same.

This is written in STRONG OPPOSITION to the approval of the requested location for the proposed Chick-fil-A
complex being considered by the planning commission. TRAFFIC in that area is already horrible, even after the city
spent millions of dollars (relatively) recently upgrading the nearby intersection. My wife and I regularly patronize
several of the businesses in the shopping center in question, and I can say without hesitation that it is already
challenging (and, sometimes, nearly impossible) to maneuver into that area to do business with them. Sadly, if the
proposed complex, along with an unheard of number of drive-through lanes, is approved and constructed, we will
no longer be able to fight the traffic and shop there for services, food, and other retail establishments that have
become an important part of the quality of our life in Palm Springs. Simply stated, approving this complex would be
one of the worst decisions ever made by any committee or commissions in this region. NO!

It’s hard to believe in these times of unknown and anxiety that our City would consider a
company that donates to organizations that would like to see many of us disappear or go back
into the closet. Other cities have had the smarts and even losing larger tax revenues turned
down CFA’s requests. As a full time resident and homeowner, I don’t want to be reminded of
bigotry and hatred associated with CFA every time I go into that area, don’t sell us out for $$,
just say no, the traffic in that area is horrendous as it is, this will add to it and seriously make
that area somewhere to avoid and the businesses there that are inclusive will suffer. I for one
will boycott that center and many other will too. Again, I cannot believe the planning
commission recommends approval, it’s like being stabbed in the heart that our City officials
will promote bigotry and hatred, The City is speaking out of both sides of their mouths, Plam
Springs is to be a City of Inclusivity and Equality so says the current Mayor and Chief, is this
all just lip service in exchange for tax revenues. Disgusting, Makes me believe it’s all smoke
and mirrors. All the City wants is tax revenue at the expense of over 1/2 of its residents.

I am writing to express my strong opposition to any corporation that supports Project 2025, an initiative that
threatens the rights and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community. Palm Springs is a welcoming and inclusive city, and
we should not allow businesses that discriminate against our community to operate here. Our hard-earned money
should be invested in businesses that align with our values and contribute positively to our community. Please
consider the impact of such corporations on our city's reputation and the well-being of its residents.

I object to the proposed Chik-fill-A restaurant at Ramon and Gene Autry because of their anti LGTBQ+ stance and
the increased traffic at an already overloaded intersection. Thank you.
