Dear City Council Members and Planning Commission,
As a full-time resident of Palm Springs, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the
proposed fulfillment center project. I moved to Palm Springs for its quality of life—its clean
air, open spaces, and breathtaking natural beauty—and I am deeply concerned that this project
threatens the very reasons so many of us call this place home.
Traffic and Infrastructure Concerns
The proposed location along I-10 is already heavily burdened by semi-trucks, arena events,
weekend and holiday traffic. Adding more trucks and vehicles from the fulfillment center will
exacerbate congestion and create safety hazards. The suggestion of rideshare as a mitigation
measure seems inadequate; rideshare availability in Palm Springs is often stretched thin,
particularly during peak times.
Environmental Impact
This project will irrevocably harm local wildlife habitats, disrupting the delicate ecosystem
that makes Palm Springs unique. Every structure built on these lands diminishes the natural
spaces we cherish and destroys habitats for local species.
Impact on Community Aesthetics and Lifestyle
The towering structures and industrial footprint of a fulfillment center starkly contrast with the
natural and architectural beauty that defines Palm Springs. These developments detract from
the serene, open-space feel of our community, making it less appealing to both residents and
visitors alike.
Palm Springs has the opportunity to embrace sustainable and community-focused projects that
enhance our unique character. A fulfillment center does not align with this vision.
I urge you to prioritize projects that respect our environment, infrastructure, and quality of life.
Please reject this proposal and consider alternatives that truly reflect the values and identity of
our community.
Thank you for listening to your residents.
Sincerely,
Victoria Olivares
Palm Springs, Full-time resident.
