CALL TO ORDER President Courtright called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL PRESENT Harry Courtright Yes Linda Futterer Yes Ashley Dunphy Yes Ron Willison Yes Ed McBride No STAFF PRESENT: Jeannie Kays, Director of Library Services. CITY STAFF PRESENT: Lisa Brock, Library Operations and Collection Manager; Julie Warren, Library Services and Public Relations Manager. PUBLIC PRESENT: Milt Levinson 3. POSTING OF AGENDA: Director Kays reported that the agenda was posted on the Library’s website and at City Hall on or before April 20, 2017. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF: The minutes of the March 23, 2017 meeting were accepted. 5. ADDED STARTERS: None. 6. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None. 7. TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer Futterer gave the report. Trustee Willison arrived at this time. 8. REPORT FROM FOPSL LIAISON: Milt Levinson gave the report. The Friends had their annual meeting on March 12th and it was very well attended. The events committee is planning events for next year; they will focus on community outreach and have formed an outreach committee. They plan on attending city wide events to share about the library and the friends group. They are also working on improving the Friends of the Palm Springs Library website. They received a donation of $1,500 from the Literary Society of the Desert and will be receiving $150,000 from the Robert Pollack Family Trust. They will have a book sale in the library lobby on May 6th and two book sales in the Frey building, one on June 17th and one on July 12th. 9. LEGISLATIVE ACTION 9. A. Welwood Patio Update The Ad Hoc Committee is working on setting up a meeting with the City; Trustee Willison requested a meeting before June so that the Board can plan for the upcoming fiscal year. Board of Library Trustees Minutes: April 27, 2017 2 9. B. Library Remodel Update Director Kays reported on the Library Remodel project. Public Works reached out the local architects on record and asked for requests for proposals. They received two proposals and two revisions. The Library Remodel subcommittee will meet to review the proposals and bring their opinion to the Library Board. 9. C. May and June meeting date conflict Due to conflicts the May meeting will be cancelled and the June meeting will be rescheduled for June 29, 2017. 10. REPORT FROM STAFF REPRESENTATIVE  Serving with a Purpose: One day conference for Friends, Trustees, and Foundations, May 4, 2017 in Rancho Cucamonga.  Lectures: Film screening May 10-Return of the River.  Youth Programs: Family Fun Fest took place Wednesday, April 12, 2017, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The Friends had a Book Sale too. Had about 550 people attend. Friends made over $500.  PSPL Comic Con: Tuesday, May 16, 2017. This event is taking over the main library room. Partnering with Palm Springs Comic Con who had their event at Hard Rock Hotel last November.  May Meeting: Jeannie is a presenter at Neighborhoods USA (NUSA) Annual Conference in Omaha, NE. Conflicts with our May Library Board meeting.  June Meeting: Director Kays and Trustee McBride attending American Library Association annual conference. Conflicts with our June Library Board meeting.  LED Sign: We have received many positive comments on our new sign. Family movie attendance doubled last month; over 50 attended. A man signed up for a computer class because he saw it on our sign.  Library Outreach: Director Kays spoke at Lion’s Club and Rotary Club in the past two weeks. Presentations were well-received. Received two new Friends memberships at the Rotary Lunch yesterday. 11. REPORT FROM LIBRARY FOUNDATION LIAISION President Courtright gave the report. The Foundation is in the process of expanding ; they have added Doug Hudson to the board and have three other possibilities; they would like a 12 person board. They are updating and revising the website, pslibraryfoundation.org. 12. TRUSTEE COMMENTS & REQUESTS Treasurer Futterer commented that the Downtown Model at Welwood is dusty and takes up a lot of room. The neighboring restaurant has appeared to add more tables to the back patio area. 13.
