City Clerk, Re: PS City Council meeting public comment 21 Nov 2024 Re: City Council Resolution 25147, 12 October 2023. -- Can the City Council either rescind this resolution or amend it to give equal consideration to both the Palestinian and Israeli people? -- 1st: As the City of Palm Springs is not a nation state with responsibilities in international relations, this resolution appears ill advised and unwarranted. -- 2nd: Even if warranted, its bias of concern for the state of Israel and ancillary consideration of the Palestinian people is plainly unjust. -- 3rd: The Hamas 7 October 2023 attack was a crime against humanity. But, based on kill numbers alone, the response of the state of Israel in the past year has been a 42+ times worse crime against humanity. -- 4th: Consequently, the state of Israel needs constraint not unqualified support. -- Michael Howard Palm Springs resident. 11/21/2024 Public Comment Non-Agenda From:Jeffrey Bernstein To:City Clerk Subject:Fwd: Public Health & Safety Issue Date:Wednesday, November 20, 2024 7:55:03 PM Thank you! Mayor- My extreme apologies, I was not aware of you not receiving my direct email, my bad. It is very disturbing that when Spectrum fails we are all vulnerable and have no way to summon emergency services, or if our home catches fire, no alarm is sent to PSFD. Spectrum is a predatory company, they are under no governmental oversight and raise rates along with substandard service and feel they don’t have to answer to us. As we get older, quick access to emergency services is of the utmost concern for many of us. Seconds and minutes count. For Spectrum to have such a lack of concern should not be acceptable under any circumstances. They barely apologize, I’ve had to reschedule zoom work meetings at a loss and they won’t even offer a credit (not like I need one, it’s just their entitled position). I guess as a subscriber I will need to take them to court as I have all of their outages, emails and other responses documented. Mayor, they lie through 11/21/2024 Public Comment Non-Agenda their teeth, people in PS have different rates for the same service and this is also proven. They, Spectrum is actually creating a life and property threatening issue and getting away with it. Although I despise trump and everything he stands for, I can see how some people are fed up, corporations have the power, citizens be damned. Again, my extreme apologies to you. I didn’t see any that you sent to me directly. I’m sorry if I missed that. We have been working on this in our Business Retention and Economic Development Subcommittee and trying to get Spectrum, Frontier and cell service companies to the table and it’s proven difficult. However, we are persisting. In addition, the City is in the midst of its broadband master plan where we’ve been addressing this issue. Here’s the info on the meetings. I hope you can attend. Your experience is important. I spent much of my career in the cable industry and there was a period when the companies truly did answer to municipalities as they had to fight for the franchise agreements. Today, they seem to have lost that business responsibility. As you may have heard, Frontier has its own issues. More than once our 911 service has gone down due their system. 11/21/2024 Public Comment Non-Agenda Jeffrey Jeffrey Bernstein Mayor City of Palm Springs cell: 442-305-9942 Jeffrey.Bernstein@palmspringsca.gov On Nov 19, 2024, at 11:45 AM, Scot Hobert 11/21/2024 Public Comment Non-Agenda <scothobert@yahoo.com> wrote: NOTICE: This message originated outside of The City of Palm Springs -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe. Dear City Leaders: I am writing AGAIN today to alert you to a Public Safety Issue/Emergency. We live in Andreas Hills, an area ONLY served by Spectrum cable, Spectrum has zero competition up here. If you are unaware, let me educate you, cell reception is spotty at best, usually unavailable. We depend on cable for our phones, home alarms, and calling For life saving assistance, and when spectrum is down, we have to drive 2miles to LaVerne to make a call. Not easy to perform if you are having a life saving emergency. Spectrum has been out in this area at least 6x this year alone. I’ve written, and have copies of all correspondence to Spectrum, the City Mayor and a council member. The Mayor Middleton answered my email immediately, the current Mayor obviously felt no need to show any care or concern for over 400 of his residents as he did not feel the need to respond. We need the city to work with Frontier to bring their services to us and end this horrible service from Spectrum. To my knowledge Mayor Middleton is the only one that has and is working diligently to get cell towers in Indian Canyon, and fully understands the Safety Concern. If I am incorrect please let me know who else has been working on this same issue diligently. Our cable went out early this morning around 1am, supposed to be back by 10:30am now possibly 1pm. They will tell you it’s a large problem not local, except they have 2 repair trucks down our road repairing equipment. Once again they have been untruthful to their customers. I am bringing in the current Mayor (again), the Mayor Pro-Tem, PSPD, PSFD, City Attorney and City Manager hoping someone will see this as a public safety issue and help do something about it. God forbid something happens and we have no service and a life or home is lost. Speaking with Spectrum, they blame ALL of their outages on outside utilities, they take zero responsibility for any of them. With my old home in Los Angeles I had very very few outages in 23 years, I’ve been with Spectrum for 26 years, they obviously fail to maintain their equipment out here (and other places) but possibly spend on buying back stock rather than improving and maintaining their equipment. It’s the 21st Century for gods sake With them it’s a take it or leave it. Corporate greed. 11/21/2024 Public Comment Non-Agenda Residents where both Spectrum and Frontier serve here in PS, Spectrum customers call to switch to Frontier and are offered rates half of what they were paying to stay with Spectrum, knowing we have zero competition this is not available to us. We pay over $100 a month just for INTERNET. Spectrum has lost a whopping 294,000 customers in the last quarter, I’m sure it’s not from offering reliable service. It’s time for the City to work with Frontier to get them to come into this area and offer their services to us and end this dangerous monopoly. And make rates fair for all. Reliable internet should be available to all. With the election anxiety and possible violence it would be nice to know we are protected and have consistent access to reliable access to life saving services. We have been ignored up here far too long in so many ways and pay so much in taxes that the City enjoys. Looking forward to your responses and your help. Very important, please read read and distribute Two truisms: <!--[if !supportLists]-->1) <!--[endif]-->You can’t turn back the clock <!--[if !supportLists]-->2) <!--[endif]--> Don’t mess with Mother Nature; she won’t respond well. One: the Palm Springs “Village” is gone. What’s built is built and won’t be reversed. Two: increasing oversized building is ecologically unsustainable. Ours is a big box canyon with two narrow passes, surrounded by photogenic mountains. Resources, like water and clean air, are limited. Abusing them imperils us all. And there’s the fact that this area sits on at least six active earthquake faults, including the dreaded San Andreas. We depend largely on tourism. The enormity (approximately 11 football fields) of this proposal is worrying. Whether driving or flying, the vision of three- to four-story cement blocks looming near our entryway will be a crushing mood-killer for vacationers promised a resort destination. Threat to the environment is measurable. Increasedcongestion along the I-10 as hundreds of 18-wheelersslow to exit or accelerate to re-enter, idle at the loadingdocks or re-starting engines will be measurable. Electricity needed to maintain temperature levels insidewarehouses will be measurable. Impact on tourism isimmeasurable yet must be considered before irreversibledamage is done. 11/21/2024 Public Comment Non-Agenda Please reject this project.
