As a 35 year Palm Springs resident who knew Frank and read his several books, I urge the City Council to place the
Statue in the downtown “green” so residents and visitors can view this historical art and learn of his unparalleled
contribution to this wonderful city.

Dear City Council Members and Mayor Bernstein,
I am writing to you with a heavy heart and a deep sense of urgency to address the
recent treatment of Frank Bogert’s legacy and the impact it has had on his family,
friends, and the countless individuals he touched throughout his life in this
community.
My husband has known Frank and his family since childhood. My husband’s own
family lived on Section 14 from 1946 to 1952 before leaving when asked to return
the land to the Tribe. Over the years, Frank, along with his beloved wife Negie
and his children including our dear friends Donna and Jose Higueras, welcomed

me with open arms into their family when I moved to Palm Springs in 1996, not
knowing a single soul other than my husband. They offered me a place to belong,
to feel rooted and connected in this community. Frank’s kindness, generosity, and
inclusivity were at the core of his character, and he became family to us.
When I hear accusations that Frank was racist or antisemitic, it truly strikes a
painful and dissonant chord. As a first-generation American from a North African
Sephardic Jewish family, my heritage and identity are deeply rooted in the values
of tolerance, respect, and inclusivity. Frank embodied these values in ways that
profoundly impacted my life and my family’s.
Frank’s first wife, Janet, was from a respected Western Jewish family, and he
fully embraced her heritage. Negie, born and raised in Mexico came from a rich
traditional Mexican background.
I was raised in a conservative/orthodox Jewish household, and Frank welcomed
me with open arms. He not only attended our wedding but also actively
participated in it, honoring the traditions of a conservative Moroccan Jewish
ceremony. Frank introduced me to his best Friend Rabbi Joseph Horowitz to
possibly officiate our wedding, However Rabbi Horowitz refused as my husband
had not yet converted. I remember Frank being a bit annoyed at his friend as he
felt we should be embraced and welcomed.
Frank treated our children as if they were his own grandchildren, even including
them in his book. Frank often spoke about his wish to live long enough to see our
son’s bar mitzvah, and although he passed before he could be there, his presence
was keenly felt that day. My son, Brian, remembered him with warmth and
gratitude, and we all raised a glass to Frank, honoring the deep bond he shared
with our family.
These memories paint a vivid picture of a man who loved deeply and welcomed
people from all walks of life. Frank’s character was defined by compassion and
acceptance, not by the traits that these recent accusations attempt to ascribe to
him. It’s a profound injustice to portray him in such a distorted light, and it’s a
disservice to the legacy of someone who genuinely valued and celebrated
diversity and worked tirelessly for this community.
Thank you for considering my perspective as someone who knew Frank well and
experienced firsthand his unwavering kindness and respect for our diverse
cultures and traditions.
In light of this, I respectfully request that you take the following actions to
preserve the truth and restore Frank’s legacy:
1. Remove the HRC Frank Bogert Monument Report from the city’s website
and publicly acknowledge that the report contains inaccuracies and
misrepresentations.
2. Issue an apology to the Bogert family for endorsing and promoting
misleading information as part of a political agenda that has unfairly marred
Frank’s reputation.

3. Relocate Frank’s statue to the Village Green at the city’s expense, honoring
his contributions in a respectful and inclusive way.
4. Correct the city records on Section 14 and all references to Mayor Frank
Bogert, removing any false and misleading statements, including references to
the discredited 1968 Attorney General Report.
5. Disclose the authors of the HRC Monument Report and address the issue of
plagiarism within the report to ensure transparency and accountability.
Frank dedicated his life to serving and uplifting the people of Palm Springs. He
welcomed everyone, regardless of background, and was an integral part of our
community’s history and growth. Please, let us honor his memory in a manner
that reflects the true nature of his character and his contributions.
Thank you for your consideration and commitment to truth and fairness.
Sincerely,
Stacey Johnson

Please provide City Council meeting Justin Clifton comments regarding giving funds for
Section 14 is not legal since personal property; i.e. in other words there existed NO real
property rights, eminent domain or the like. Then the city charter where property tax payer

Re: Mayor Bogert controversy
I continue to be disturbed by the falsehoods being spread about the late, Mayor Frank Bogert. As someone who
first came in contact with him over 60 years ago and who has heard so many stories about his efforts to promote
Palm Springs and his quietly done good deeds, I urge you to remove the Frank Bogert Monument Report that is on
the City’s website. Also let the citizens see who actually drafted this erroneous report.
It is a pity that Mayor Bogert’s widow and family have been exposed to this smear campaign. They are owed an
apology.
The City should also correct its records on Sec. 14. Please remove the falsehood about Mayor Bogert.
Finally, please put the statue of Mayor Bogert in the Village Green. Many of us know and appreciate the
history of the city’s pioneers. The City can take the lead in educating new residents.

Hello,
My name is Lori, I am Frank Bogert's oldest grandaughter. I, as well as my 84 year old
mother - and the rest of our family -still live here in Palm Springs. His wife still lives a stones
throw away from City Hall. Since the first time I saw a Facebook post a few years ago,
regarding the petition to remove my grandfathers statue. It was shocking and hurtful to my
whole family. I was there when they dedicated that statue and I was there when the removed
it. As was the rest of my family and friends.
It is my hope that after all of this time, and after reading factual historical documentation of
my grandfathers actions, that the City can apologize to all of us that were affected by the
horrible things said about him. I also would love to be able to take his great grandkids to see
his statue and the Village Green!
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Lori
