This is phase 1 of an overall project for the Arenas District: Beautification. Enhance the
lighting and attraction of Palm Springs premier nightlife/LGBTQ/entertainment
district. The Arenas District is large revenue generator for the city of Palm Springs as
it is a major tourist destination that is home to 8 major events (Pride, Halloween, IBC,
etc.) a year in the city. The District's 10 restaurants and bars provide double the tax
percentage as they are on tribal land (tribe negotiated to double the amount from sales
tax to the city than what the State of California gives). In addition, the events in the
District drive hotel stays and other tourist revenue to the rest of the city. Currently,
the street is very dark at night and there is a dearth of shade. A bulletin board will
continue to add to the sense of community for the District.
