7. Short description of proposed project.
To improve the aesthetic appeal of the historic First Baptist Church Palm Springs, it
is essential to expand senior services and introduce educational programs for the
broader community. Designed by Howard Latham, this midcentury building holds
significance as the first church established for African Americans over sixty years
ago. Many seniors in the Desert Highland Gateway community face limited
opportunities for engagement, and First Baptist Church is committed to
addressing this need by facilitating various activities. Additionally, the church
recognizes the necessity for youth programming and plans to implement initiatives
ranging from after school activities to weekend events.
