We are seeking funding for the purpose of converting as much of our energy consumption as possible into renewable clean energy via solar canopies. Canopies containing 262± solar panels will be installed in the Sunrise Park/Mizell Center parking lot. The panels have the capacity to reduce our annual metered energy cost of $51,847 by 50% to $26,429. This is our largest non-service expense, one that has risen more than 30% in the past two years. Additionally, converting to solar will positively impact seniors visiting Mizell Center and people visiting the park. Canopies will provide much needed shade for vehicles, especially those designated for handicapped drivers. Vehicles will be cooler and more easily accessible during the summer months. The solar canopies themselves will be a visible and enduring reminder of our shared commitment to sustainability. And, the battery storage will ensure that Mizell Center will remain operational in the event of an outage or emergency.
