Replace with well-designed new water-efficient landscapes – Creating examples for Palm Springs residents on how to create Efficient, yet green landscapes for their own properties. PLANNING SERVICES DEPARTMENT New efficient fixtures similar to the original 1957 parking lot lighting are available 3C - 11 Summary of potential cost*: Phase 1 (West Primary Façade (part historic, part non-historic): $95,000 Phase 2 (East Modular Garden (historic):30,000 Phase 3 (South Perimeter (front historic): 150,000 Phase 4 (North side of west wing (non-historic): 45,000 Phase 5 (North side of east wing (non-historic): 140,000 Phase 6 (East side parking lot (non-historic) (included in Phase 5) Allowance: Desertscape in North Courtyard 25,000 Allowance: Replace plant loss in existing desertscape areas 25,000 Escalation, unforeseen conditions, etc.(20%) 100,000 Parking Lot Lighting Upgrades TBD TOTAL ESTIMATED BUDGET (Average $11/square foot) $610,000 *(Rough order of magnitude estimates as 3Q 2024 includes construction, design, project management prevailing wage, etc.) PLANNING SERVICES DEPARTMENT 3C - 12 The Opportunities: •Lead by example. •Restore a landscape by a renowned mid-century landscape architect. •Create well-designed landscapes to demonstrate to property owners that water-efficient landscapes do not have to be hot, barren and dry. •Encourage planting of shade trees and water conservation efforts. •Reduce Water Consumption. •Improvements in parking lot safety with better lighting can be developed.
