ACTION: M/S/C (O'Donnell / McGrew, 6-1, absent Parker) To approve the minutes of August 23, 2010 with corrections noted under Chairman / Committee / Staff Comments. REVISIONS TO AGENDA: None PUBLIC COMMENTS: Three (3) minute time limit per person on matters within the jurisdiction of the Architectural Advisory Committee. There were no public comments. AGENDA ITEM #2: Case 3.1967 MAA — Red Tomato Restaurant Architect Chris Sahlin representing the Red Tomato Restaurant for building exterior repair and repaint, landscape upgrade at existing building at 1201 E. Palm Canyon Drive. Zone R- 2, Section 26. (DN) Member Sahlin recused himself from the discussion and left the dias. Associate Planner Newell introduced the project and described the intended work. Architect Chris Sahlin being a sole proprietor presented the proposal to the AAC. He described the exterior repair of the building to include the removal of the blue wooden Architectural Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes of September 7, 2010 beams, the repaint of the building to three separate shades of brown, the repair and replacement of the roof barrel tiles, painting of all wood trim, removal of existing wood fence with CMU block wall in the rear, and a landscape update. Member O'Donnell asked if the proposed repaint colors would cause heat radiation. Member McGrew had no comments. Member King asked for details on the proposed minor repairs. Vice Chair Kleindienst asked about the screening of service areas. He suggested an increase in tree box size. Chair Ortega suggested that the proposed size of the Palo Verde trees be increased. ACTION: M/S/C (Kleindienst / O'Donnell, 6-1, absent Parker) To recommend approval to subject to conditions: 1. Increase the tree box size for Palo Verde trees to 36 inches. 2. Enhance bollards in parking area and remove mailbox. CHAIRMAN / COMMITTEE / STAFF COMMENTS: There was a question about Del Taco signage located at N. Indian Canyon Drive and Interstate 10. The Principal Planner informed the AAC that elections for Chairman and Vice Chairman will be held at the September 20, 2010 meeting, and that a joint meeting with the Planning Commission and AAC will be held on October 6, 2010. There was discussion amongst the AAC members on a letter regarding the Welwood Murray Library. Member King asked if a vote for AAC Chairman and Vice Chairman is appropriate if the nominated member is not present at that meeting. Chair Ortega noted his stance on cell towers. Member McGrew noted a possible problem at the next meeting regarding a quorum for a discussion on the Welwood Murray Library. Members O'Donnell, Sahlin, and Escalante have a conflict of interest.
