APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approval of Minutes for meeting of July 26, 2010.
ACTION: M/S/C (Kleindienst / Parker, 7-0) To approve the minutes of July 26, 2010.
REVISIONS TO AGENDA: None
PUBLIC COMMENTS: Three (3) minute time limit per person on matters within the
jurisdiction of the Architectural Advisory Committee.
There were no public comments.
AGENDA ITEM #2: Case 3.2796 SFR Revision — Shultz Family Trust
Schultz Family Trust to incorporate a re -designed rooftop view patio to a previously approved
single-family residence located at 587 Camino Calidad, Zone R-1-A, Section 22. (DN)
Associate Planner, David A. Newell, provided background and information on the proposed
rooftop view patio for the previously approved single family residence. Mr. Ray Ryans,
representing the Schultz Family Trust, provided additional details on the proposal.

Vice Chair Kleindienst appreciated that the applicant moved rooftop deck further back.
Members King, McGrew and O'Donnell preferred the original location of the rooftop view
patio.
Motion: O'Donnell — To recommend denial of the project; seconded by King. Vote: 2-5
(opposed / Kleindienst, McGrew, Ortega, Parker, Sahlin). Motion failed.
Motion: Parker — To recommend approval, subject to raising parapet wall on northerly
portion of view patio to five feet to screen view of adjacent lot to the north; seconded by
Sahlin. Vote: 2-5 (opposed / King, Kleindienst, McGrew, O'Donnell, Ortega). Motion failed.
ACTION: M/S/C (Kleindienst / McGrew 5-2, opposed / King, O'Donnell) To recommend
approval as submitted.
AGENDA ITEM #3: Case 3.3331 SFR — Halper Residence
HJH Construction Inc. for the construction of an approximately 5,299 square foot single-
family residence on an approximately 20,908 square foot hillside lot at 700 West Ramon
Road, Zone R-1-A, Section 15. (DN)
Associate Planner Newell presented the proposed project and indicated that the subject
property has an existing residence that was built in 1938 which classifies the property as a.
Class III Historic Site. The demolition of structures on Class III Historic Sites requires prior
approval from the Historic Site Preservation Board (HSPB). Planner Newell stated that the
RSPB will review demolition of the structures on August 10, 2010.
Mr. Hal J. Hall, representing Peter & Kathy Halper, made a brief presentation on the
proposed residence. Mr. Manuel Mendoza, designer, described the proposed architecture
and design of the project.
Member McGrew felt the design could be better.
Member King would prefer to see a consistency of architectural styles.
Vice Chair Kleindienst liked the project and supports the property owner's request.
Chair Ortega noted that the irrigation will have to be reviewed and approved by the Desert
Water Agency to ensure compliance with the State's Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance.
ACTION: M/S/C (Kleindienst / Parker 5-2, opposed / King, McGrew) To recommend
approval as submitted.

AGENDA ITEM #4: Case 3.3439 SFR — Pastore-Yorba Residence
Staff member Lyon presented the project to the AAC. Lyon explained that the underlying
Tract Map 18087 imposed conditions for architectural review pursuant to PSZC 94.04 for
hillside lots and lots fronting Bogert Trail within the tract, and that all lots within the tract
facing Barona and Bogert Trail must have on -site vehicular turn arounds. Jim Cioffi, on
behalf of the applicant, presented the project and answered questions regarding the detailing
of the metal roof.
AAC members offered the following comments and recommendations:
4.a Eliminate the queen palms; they will not survive the desert climate
4.b No white surface on proposed fabric shade structure, tan or beige only
ACTION: M/S/C (O'Donnell, King) 7-0) To recommend approval with 2 conditions.
1. Choose an alternative tree species to the queen palms.
2. No white surface on the proposed fabric shade structure, tan or beige only.
CHAIRMAN / COMMITTEE / STAFF COMMENTS:
Member McGrew asked for Staff clarification regarding terms of AAC Members.
Principal Planner Robertson stated that the Planning Commission, at their last study session,
discussed the need to declare vacancies and the possibility of staggering AAC terms.
According to the Principal Planner, there was no decision made at this meeting. Staff was
directed to schedule a joint meeting with the Planning Commission and the AAC to discuss
this issue.
Chair Ortega asked staff to address sign code violations present at the Del Taco located at
North Indian Canyon Drive and Interstate 10. The Principal Planner informed the AAC that
the signs were not permitted and that the establishment has already been notified.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further comments, the AAC meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
