MINUTES OF MAY 20, 2013
CALL TO ORDER: Acting Chair Harlan called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm
Committee Members Present: Harlan, Fauber, Fredricks, Purnel, Secoy-Jensen, and
Thompson.
Absent: Chair Kleindienst.
PUBLIC COMMENTS: There were no public comments.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approval of Minutes with amendments for meeting of May 6,
2013.
ACTION: M/S/C (Secoy-Jensen / Fauber, 5-0-1, abstain Thompson) to approve.
2. CASE 3.3633 MINOR ARCHITECTURAL APPLICATION - Tim Regalado of Best of the
Best Tours to install desert landscaping within existing planters and construct corrugated metal
vehicle enclosure and wrought iron security fence enclosure at 490 South Indian Canyon
Drivb, Zone LSC (Section 14 Specific Plan), Section 14.
Applicant Regalado explained the submittal was a photo simulation.
Member Fredricks asked about plant material.
Applicant answered primarily cactus he owns and Birds of Paradise.
Applicant Tom Cubby answered additional questions.
Acting Chair Harlan suggested that the enclosure not be metal but glass, hedge or material to
match the building.
Members Fauber and Secoy-Jensen agreed.
Members Fredricks and Purnel opposed the stones on curbing and wanted a full plant palette.
ACTION: M/S/C (Fauber / Secoy-Jensen, 6-0) Re -study - need more complete submittal with

elevations, color and material board attached; need complete plant list using appropriate
material and simpler material and curb treatment; more site sensitive material for enclosure
and possible relocation thereof.
3. CASE 3.3398 MINOR ARCHITECTURAL APPLICATION — Palm Springs Unified School
District to construct solar photovoltaic carport canopies in the front and rear parking areas at
the District Service Center located at 150 District Center Drive, Zone M-1-P, Section 18.
Applicant Toby Foster of Reno Contracting, Inc. available.
Member Fauber wants structure low as possible on District Center Drive.
Member Purnel concerned regarding visible conduits on structure
ACTION: M/S/C (Fauber / Fredricks, 6-0) Approve with comment to explore covering
conduits and to replace any disturbed landscaping.
4. Case 3.3646 SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENCE — Semar Residence to construct a 5,291
square foot four -bedroom custom home on Lot 41 in the Estancias Development located at
3206 Las Brisas Way, Zone PD 262, Section 35.
Applicant Brian Diebolt available for questions.
ACTION: M/S/C (Thompson / Secoy-Jensen, 6-0) Approved.
5. CASE 3.1345 MINOR ARCHITECTURAL APPLICATION — Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
requesting a building repaint; remove and replace landscaping; modify free standing elevator;
add screen wall; add new parking lot kiosk at main entrance located at 1 Tram Way, Zone
ESA-SP, Section 7.
Applicants Chris Mills, Jeff Jurasky, and Michael Buccino available for questions.
Member Secoy-Jensen asked how tall the kiosk will be.
Applicant Mills replied 14' 6". He added that the slab on grade is to be replaced. No new
retaining wall. There will be additional landscaping.
Member Fredricks stated concerns regarding sycamore blight.
Mr. Buccino was unaware and would investigate.
Members Fredricks, Secoy-Jensen, and Fauber has concerns regarding the blue color.

Member Secoy- Jensen referenced the original green as possibly more appropriate.
Member Harlan questioned the corrugated shaft, distance between shaft and building and
preferred original colors.
ACTION: M/S/C (Secoy-Jensen / Fredricks, 6-0) Approve with comment to consider making
new elements differ from the historic structure; to explore material options original color, and
the concern about sycamores.
6. CASE 3.3577 MINOR ARCHITECTURAL APPLICATION & 5.1300 CONDITIONAL USE
PERMIT — Schnabel House for the renovation and addition to an existing house on a hillside
lot totaling 4,308 square feet including a Conditional Use Permit for a 518 square foot casita
located at 420 West Chino Canyon Road, Zone R-1-A, Section 3. (GM)
Letter of protest submitted.
Applicant Sean Lockyer available.
Member Fauber asked for the location of equipment. Applicant indicated on plans.
Member Secoy-Jensen asked for story poles to be built for neighbors to see the height.
Speakers: Robin Rout stated three concerns:
- Height blocking view of valley, wants the story poles;
- Lot line adjustment concern;
® - Landscaping concern especially mesquites.
Owner Schnabel spoke.
Members Fredricks and Purnel indicated a plant legend missing..
ACTION: M/S/C (Secoy-Jensen / Fredricks, 6-0) Approve with conditions: 1) Plant legend to
be submitted for review by sub -committee Purnel and Fredricks and 2) Story poles to be
installed to accurately depict height at corner of concern.
COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS:
Member Fredricks — Must have larger color plans
Member Thompson — Must resign as moving August 1, will stay through July meetings.
STAFF MEMBER COMMENTS:
Photo to be postponed until new members appointed.

ADJOURNMENT: The Architectural Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:36 pm to its regularly
scheduled meeting on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 3:00 pm,'City Hall, Council Chamber, 3200
