ABSENT: Rose, Hough, Miller (Member Miller joined the meeting at 2:04 pm.) 2021 – Attendance Record for CLG ACCEPTANCE OF THE AGENDA: Motion by Rosenow seconded by Kiser to accept the agenda as presented. CONSENT CALENDAR: 1.A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: JULY 6, 2021 HSPB MEETING. Motion by Hansen seconded by Kiser to approve the minutes of July 6, 2021 as corrected. AYES: Nelson, Kiser, Hansen, Miller, Rosenow. NOES: None. ABSENT: Rose, Hough. 2. PUBLIC HEARINGS: 2.A. 2.A. AN APPLICATION BY THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS FOR HISTORIC DESIGNATION OF THE ROBERT ALEXANDER RESIDENCE (AKA “THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW”) LOCATED AT 1350 LADERA CIRCLE, PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA. (HSPB #136). Staff member Lyon summarized the staff report. Member Hansen asked about removal of the original landscape. (Lyon clarified the landscape condition.) Vice-Chair Nelson noted Krisel is credited for the design of the landscape. The Vice Chair opened the public hearing. Rob Burnheimer spoke on behalf of the property owners, noting they are eager to restore the house. He noted much of the landscape was already disturbed prior to purchase by the current owner due to lot line adjustments. Paul Armistead, one of the owners, stated their eagerness to complete the project. Seeing no further speakers, the vice-chair closed the public hearing. Member Hansen noted the consultant produced a well-written report. Member Rosenow agreed with Member Hansen. Member Hansen asked (staff) if there would be another opportunity to tour the site (Lyon noted yes.) Member Kiser supports the possible designation of the site. Vice-chair Nelson asked about the number of precast concrete stepping pads at the front entry. (Mr. Armistead noted the number of pads has not changed during their ownership.) Nelson expressed dismay that the terrazzo terrace at the rear of the property had been demolished and hopes it will be restored. Motion by Kiser seconded by Hansen to accept the findings in the staff report and recommend Class 1 historic site designation by the City Council. AYES: Nelson, Kiser, Miller, Hansen, Rosenow. NOES: None. ABSENT: Hough, Rose. 3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 3.A. AN APPLICATION BY PAUL ARMITSTEAD AND DANIEL BRIDGE, OWNERS, FOR APPROVAL OF ALTERATIONS TO “THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW”, A CLASS 3 HISTORIC SITE LOCATED AT 1350 LADERA CIRCLE (APN #505- 082-026), CASE 3.0917 MAA (KL). Staff Lyon summarized the staff report. Motion by Rosenow seconded by Miller to extend the stay by 60 days to October 31, 2021. AYES: Nelson, Kiser, Miller, Hansen, Rosenow. NOES: None. ABSENT: Hough, Rose. 4. NEW BUSINESS: (None.) BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS: Member Kiser spoke about defining the vision for the symposium and the need for a back- up plan for the symposium in the event it can’t be held due to COVID. STAFF COMMENTS: Staff Lyon noted there was discussion of staff with applicants representing the City National Bank building for capital improvements.
