CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Hudson called the meeting to order at 12:03 pm.

ALSO PRESENT: M. Margo Wheeler, FAICP, Director of Planning Services
REPORT OF POSTING OF AGENDA: The agenda was posted for public access at the
City Hall bulletin board (west side of Council Chamber) and the Planning Department by
12:00 pm on July 17, 2014.
PUBLIC COMMENTS: None.
DISCUSSION ITEMS:
1. REVIEW OF PSZC SECTION 94.04.00 REGARDING ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW

DIRECTOR WHEELER discussed the current code and responsibilities.
CHAIR HUDSON indicated that expectations regarding design need to be higher.
Discussion regarding standard conditions ensued.
COMMITTEE MEMBER SONG said she does not always get the information necessary.
COMMISSIONER ROBERTS indicated that some projects are ridiculous. There must be a
complete application. He wants to see what has been said to the applicant or to be given
the back story in the staff report.
COMMITTEE MEMBER SECOY-JENSEN commented that the staff report has improved,
but incomplete plans cannot get across the counter.
COMMISSIONER ROBERTS liked the diversity of the styles.
COMMISSIONER MIDDLETON stated that if it is a unique project, it is important to work
with neighbors.
COMMISSIONER WEREMIUK said that there is always context too.
COMMITTEE MEMBER CASSADY said monopoles have been a significant issue of late.
COMMISSIONER WEREMIUK asked if the 15' limit made sense and if pole or palm work.
COMMISSIONER ROBERTS said it depends on the location.
COMMITTEE MEMBER SONG indicated Planned Developments need streetscape design
with elevations in context.
CHAIR HUDSON stated that PDD's street design and width is an issue of sidewalks or
having the street differently designed. They need different ideas.
COMMISSIONER WEREMIUK stressed that they strongly need an ordinance regarding
private streets.
COMMISSIONER CASSADY stated they want these projects to work and fit into
neighborhoods.
CHAIR HUDSON stated it was a great idea to have this discussion.
COMMITTEE MEMBER SECOY-JENSEN commented she would like to see story poles,

required for hillside applications.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Planning Commission adjourned at 1:07 pm to the regular Planning Commission
meeting at 1:30 pm on July 23, 2014 in the Council Chamber at City Hall.
The Architectural Advisory Committee adjourned at 1:07 p.m. to their next meeting on
August 11, 2014 at 3:00 pm, City Hall, Council Chamber.
