HomeMy WebLinkAbout87904 RESOLUTION NO. 8790 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, RECOMMENDING TOiTHE, _ RIVERSIDE COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION THAT CHANGE OF ZONE CASE #748 BE DENIED. WHEREAS the Riverside County Planning Commission requested from the Palm Springs Planning Commission a recommendation concerning a Change of Zone from M-3 to M-5 for property located on the north and south sides of Interstate 10, east and west of Indian Avenue, as indicated on map in Case #748, and; WHEREAS the Palm Springs Planning Commission, after reviewing said case at their meeting of October 19, 1966, recommended denial since the requested Change of Zone to M-5 would allow the permanent in- stallation of billboards along Interstate 10, which has been desig- nated by the State of California as a future scenic highway, and; WHEREAS the Palm Springs Planning Commission, in their minutes of October 19, 1966, indicated that present billboards along Interstate 10 are unsightly and should be eventually eliminated completely, and; WHEREAS the Palm Springs Planning Commission is of the opinion that billboards should not be encouraged, especially along proposed scenic highways, and; I WHEREAS the Palm Springs Planning Commission is of the opinion that billboards in the desert area should be discouraged and that existing County ordinances concerning billboards should be strictly enforced so that present non-conforming billboards are eliminated, and; WHEREAS the Palm Springs City Council is in agreement with the recom- mendation of the Palm Springs Planning Commission and wholeheartedly endorses a program of strict billboard control throughout the desert area. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Palm Springs City Council recom- mends to the Riverside County Planning Commission that Case #748, Change of Zone from M-3 to M-5, be denied. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Palm Springs City Council go on record as requesting the assistance and support from all private and govern- mental agencies within the desert area to restrict and limit any future expansion of billboards and that a study be made of present County billboard ordinances to insure the adequate control and regulation of billboards throughout the desert area.
