HomeMy WebLinkAbout8768RESOLUTION NO. 8768 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE DISPOSITION OF THE REMAINING PEAKS PROPERTY. WHEREAS the Traffic Advisory Commission has considered the present status of demolition and improvement of the recently acquired Peaks property on Palm Canyon Drive between Andreas and Amado Road; and WHEREAS the Traffic Commission has considered the leases recently negotiated for the north and south streets of the Peake building, along with the lease with Gerry Potter for the center street; and WHEREAS it is the Traffic Commission's opinion that demolition of the Peake building and conversion of the remaining Peake property into public parking lot is of paramount importance; and WHEREAS it is the Traffic Commissions opinion that the recently negotiated leases for the north and south streets should be continued until the end of the present tourist season in spite of the 60-day cancellation clauses contained in the agreements; and IWHEREAS monies are budgeted for the demolition of the Peake 1 building and conversion of the remaining Peake property into a parking facility; NOW THEREFORE, the Traffic Advisory Commission recommends to the City Council that the following steps relative to disposition of the remaining Peake property be taken: 1. That the present lease with Gerry Potter be re-negotiated at the end of this tourist season relative to termination of the lease. 2. That the leases recently entered into for use of the two stores adjacent to Gerry Potter not be renewed at the end of this tourist season. 3. That upon termination of the present leases, the building now existing on the Peake property be demolished and the lot completed, completion of the parking facility to be accomplished during the summer of 1967. 4. That if negotiations with Gerry Potter for termination of his lease are not successful, the lease on the north store (Crawford lease) be terminated at the end of the tourist season, that portion of the building be demolished, and the space provided by the 1 7-B Council Agenda October 24, 1966 Page Two demolition be utilized in conjunction with the present 10' driveway Itocreateatwo-way driveway entering on Palm Canyon Drive from the parking lot. FURTHER, if the les'spe on the Crawford lease wishes to terminate his lease prior to the completion of the tourist season, that the City terminate the lease and hold the store without lease uatil the end of the tourist season.
