HomeMy WebLinkAbout8726C4 886 RESOLUTION NO. 8726 5,q ° OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFCRNIA, ADOPTING A CLASSIFICATION AND COMPENSATION PLAN FOR POSITIONS IN THE CITY SERVICE FOR THE 1966-67 FISCAL YEAR AND RE- PEALING RESOLUTION 8691 . WHEREAS, the City Council, by Resolution No. 8691 on June 27, 1966 adopted a Position Classification and Salary Plan; and WHEREAS, the Personnel Board has considered modifications to the Personnel Rules for city employees and recommended that no change be made in fringe benefits; and WHEREAS, the City Council now desires to grant an additional 2i% salary increase without modifying fringe benefits; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires that a survey of wage rates and fringe benefits be made before the end of the current fiscal year; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT. SECTION 1 . An additional 21% across the board salary increase is hereby granted to all city employees effective July 10 , 1966 . SECTION 2 . The attached Position Allocation and Salary Plan is hereby adopted effective July 10 , 1966 . SECTION 3. Resolution 8691 is hereby repealed. Adopted this 8th day of August 1, 1966. A new position. The City has been contracting for this service but the room tax revenue has grown to the point where we need a full time person. 2. A new position to provide clerical help 'for the Fire Department, especially the Bureau of Fire Prevention, This will free the men in the Bureau from the paper work that has prevented them from performing a more effective inspection program, 3. An increase of three janitors over last year's authorization to service the new airport. 4. An increase of two laborers over last year's authorization to provide the manpower necessary for the City's street striping and signing program. 5. An increase of two library assistants over last year's author- ization to help service the new library and to provide the coverage necessary to keep the two branch libraries open on Saturday, 6, An increase of two additional Grounds Maintenance Men over last year's authorization to ma ntain the landscaping at the new air- port. This position has been reclassified Technician. The position has expanded to include increased responsibilities and the new job specification depicts the position as it now exists. The increased salary reflects the increased duties and responsibilities of the position. B, Due to a reorganization 'within the Police Department , one Lieutenant 's position has been reclassified to Captain to pro- vide for better supervisory pattern. No new personnel are contemplated. C, Due to increased responsibilities and the difficulty in recruit- ing for this position, it has been reclassified. The increased salary reflects the increased responsibilities of the Maintenance Electrician position. D. A position of Civil Engineer I has been changed to that of Right- of-Way Assistant to reflect the work that is now being performed in the field of right-of-way acquisition. E. The position of Traffic Analyst has been reclassified to the position of Traffic Division Supervisor due to increased responsibilities, and to bring the position in line with the other division heads in the Public Works Department. F. The key position of Park Supervisor has been upgraded to Park Mainten- ance Supervisor as recommended by the City's Park and Recreation Consultant. The education and required experience for this position have been substantially increased. G. The position of Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor has been upgraded with increased educational and background requirements. Resolution No. 8691 7-Al
