HomeMy WebLinkAbout8646RESOLUTION NO. 8646 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, URGING CONGRESS TO APPROPRIATE 100,000 FOR ADVANCE PLANNING FOR TAHQUITZ FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT. 1 WHEREAS the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District has requested an appropriation for advance Planning Funds for Tahquitz Flood Control Project in the City of Palm Springs, and WHEREAS the California Water Commission has gone on record in support of this appropriation, and WHERAS the said project has previously been authorized by Congress, and WHEREAS the Corps of Engineers has indicated a capability in 1966-67 fiscal year of $100,000 for this project, and WHEREAS the flooding of this water course area in November, 1965 did result in the City of Palm Springs being declared a disaster area, and WHEREAS the City Council wishes to go on record in support of the immediate appropriation of funds for this vital project NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs SECTION 1. That Congress be and is hereby urged to appropriate 100,000 to the Corps of Engineers for advance planning for the Tahquitz Flood Control Project in the 1966-67 budget. I SECTION 2. That certified copies of this resolution be mailed to Hon. Michael J. Kerwin, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations, Sub-Committee on Public Works, and to Hon. Allen J. Ellender, Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Sub-Committee on Public Works, and to Hon. John Tunney, Hon. Thomas Kuchel and Hon. George Murphy.
