A REQUEST BY THE OSWIT LAND TRUST, FOR A MINOR AMENDMENT TO PLANNEDDEVELOPMENT DISTRICT (PDD 153) TO ALLOW THE RESTORATION OF APPROXIMATELY 90ACRES OF THE 120-ACRE FORMER GOLF COURSE AND COUNTRY CLUB SITE INTO A NATIVEDESERT HABITAT AND NATURE PRESERVE; THE SITE IS LOCATED BETWEEN SUNRISE WAY;AND EL CIELO ROAD; NORTH OF MESQUITE AVENUE; ZONE PDD 153/W, SECTION 24 (CASE5.0303-PD 153) (ER). RECOMMENDATION: ADOPT A CATEGORICAL EXEMPT PER CEQA GUIDELINES AND APPROVETHE PROPOSED MINOR PLANNED DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT AMENDMENT SUBJECT TOCONDITIONS. Dear Planning Commission, I would like to convey my support for above request by the Oswit Land Trust(Oswit). Oswit has done an exemplary job in acquiring, converting, maintaining, andplanning the Prescott Preserve -- they should be allowed to fully restore it to anative desert habitat preserve. I have enjoyed this preserve ever since it was opened to the public. I lovewalking and bird-watching there whenever I get the chance. I have seen thewildlife return and make this preserve their home thanks to the efforts of Oswitstaff and volunteers. Tree planting, rock placement and habitat restoration hasalready achieved huge success and I hope it continues. Prescott Preserve is a jewel for the City of Palm Springs and is enjoyed by folksfrom the surrounding area and from all over the country. It allows for residents tohave a local place to walk and enjoy nature. It also is good for tourism and will continue to attract visitors.
