Hello Planning Commissioners, I am writing to encourage you to support the landscape amendment for the Prescott Preserve, from a golf course to a native wildlife preserve. There are many reasons that this change will be beneficial to the City, and to the Coachella Valley as a whole. The City of Palm Springs is visited by people who love the outdoors. There are so many outdoor things to do in Palm Springs and including an accessible preserve would add to Palm Springs' attraction. Younger people are routinely hiking and walking for exercise, and for the wellness benefits of being in nature. The Preserve is near to most of the Palm Springs hotels, as well as PS residents. Already, many bird species have returned to the Preserve, and returning this land to native plant species will continue to "rewild" the terrain. The carbon footprint when returning land to its native state is diminished. There are so many "wins" when approving the staffs' landscape amendment. Although I live in Indian Wells, I routinely come to Palm Springs to recreate. Please add the Preserve to the number of places I (along with multitudes of others) want to visit. I thank you for your service to the City and its citizens, and for your thoughtful evaluation of this amendment. Sincerely, Sue Shigenaga -- Sue Shigenaga 760.668.3936 Cell sshigenaga@gmail.com
