Re: Oswit Land Trust submission for “minor landscape amendment”
July 24, 2024
I understand that the Oswit Land Trust has applied for a “minor landscape amendment” in order to
proceed with their plans for the Prescot Preserve, formerly the Mesquite Golf Course.
First of all, what has occurred to the property and what is purportedly planned for the property is not
“minor ” in any way. The day the land was purchased by Oswit, it was a green, fully functfoning golf
course. Now it is a dry, barren eyesore. It attracts bobcats and coyotes in such numbers that dogs are
now banned from being on the Preserve and walkers are advised to carry airhorns in case of a
confrontatfon. It creates dust swells which overwhelm homes in the area on windy days. Homeowners
are also concerned about fire hazards as the area is not watered and is full of tfnder dry trees and
shrubs. This is right in the middle of a densely populated area of Palm Springs.
My other concern is that Oswit is involved in litfgatfon with the Mesquite HOA over their failure to honor
a lease agreement, with the Mesquite homeowners, held on the property. Oswit for the past 2 years has
not acted in good faith with the HOA Board and made many false statements to the Board about their
intentfons. This litfgatfon is before the court and untfl it is resolved, I would suggest that The City of Palm
Springs should not be engaging with them in making changes to land use or any other requests they
have of the Planning Commission.
Respectiully,
