Dear Planning Commissioners.
As a long-time Palm Springs resident, I was concerned to learn that the Oswit Land Trust
(OLT) is being burdened by numerous and egregious conditions for getting the Planning
Commission's approval of their landscaping plan for Prescott Preserve. I'm mystified as to
why the Commission would place expensive and unreasonable requirements upon a
nonprofit whose work benefits our residents.
To call out a couple that I've gotten word of:
- Requiring employing a full time ranger, when to my knowledge, over the past two years
under OLT ownership the property has been protected from illegal dumping and encampments
by a team of staff & volunteers augmented by surveillance. So why this requirement?
- Requiring trails be open to the public at all times. This request seems counter to the implied
safety concerns suggested by requiring the full-time ranger. Isn't it in the communities interest
that the trails be closed to the public from sunset to sunrise? My recollection is that the Indian
Canyons are closed at night. What is your rationale for this requirement?
OLT is dedicated to preserving open space for our residents, visitors, and wildlife. Why place
these sorts of obstacles in their way? Please work with them in their efforts to make Prescott
Preserve a treasured gem in our city.
Thanks.
- Steve
