Hello Commissioners, City Staff and attendees
I did make attempts to join the meeting however was unable
I would appreciate if the Commission could look at the history of nearby airports that made attempts to rebrand,
specifically Burbank Airport.
In the mid 1990’s Burbank Airport attempted to rebrand itself as “ The Bob Hope Airport” It was done with
excitement, brochures, news releases, signage, and a major cash expenditure.
However, after years they discovered that travelers did not know where the Bob Hope Airport was located. As a
result ridership and revenues declined drastically. In the past several years they have returned to the historically
established name of “ The Burbank Airport” because travelers knew where Burbank was located. Since the return to
its original name ridership and revenues have begun to increase.
I am not aware of the specifics of your rebranding; however, I highly recommend the airport name remain as, “The
Palm Springs International Airport” The current logo evokes the mid century style that this area is recognized for. If
any changes are to be made I would recommend:
“ The Palm Springs International Airport serving the entire Coachella Valley”. The world recognizes the name “
Palm Springs” and knows its location in Southern California.
I would appreciate a response, if possible.
Thank you so much for your work
