The Palm Springs General Plan that led to the creation of Museum Way, with an
unobstructed view corridor from Palm Canyon Drive to the Palm Springs Art Museum. I
participated in the listening and planning sessions and supported the open view concept
to preserve the spectacular mountain views.
The report does not contain any information regarding the following:
What effect will the road closure have on emergency and other access issues when
construction is completed for the planned hotel or any other structure that may occupy
the vacant lot adjacent to Museum Way? How will the closure affect traffic flow and
parking when future construction is completed: What are the environment impacts?
Desert Water Agency will seal off a main water line if the closure is enacted. What is the
cost of this water main construction and who will bear the cost? How will this affect the
future construction on the vacant lot?
The plan does not address an alternative to move the statute 100 feet into the park as
per original plans and concept contained in the original general plan.
Consider the cost of continued litigation and look for a solution to resolve it.
I urge you to keep the Museum Way open to vehicular and pedestrian traffic and restore
the magnificent view corridor.
