Dear Mr. Bernstein and Council Members, You and the other Council Members are considering the request from the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization (Item “N” on the Consent Agenda) at your July 9th meeting. I want you to know that our neighborhood organization has worked really hard to develop this artistic collection along Chino Drive (and plan to donate it to the City), and we have engaged our neighbors in the process extensively. Our spring meeting in 2023 featured the collection of five prototypes by Delos Val Earl for comments on the pieces and suggestions. The response was overwhelmingly positive and Red Dragon was the favorite. Red Dragon is now proudly standing along Chino Drive. As our goal is to install five pieces, we again went to our neighbors for their thoughts and support at our neighborhood block party in spring of 2024 in the parking lot at Temple Isaiah. Comments from around 110 attendees about Red Dragon were totally positive. We asked for a vote on the next installation from the four choices, and Prince came in first. A close second was Blue Belly Crab. These two are the next two installations we are requesting funding for from the City of Palm Springs. Again, both will be donated to the City after installation to become part of the City’s Public Art Collection. I hope you will support our request. More details are explained in the Staff Report. We are extremely excited to be part of this effort to create an artistic treasure along Chino Drive for both residents and tourists to enjoy. Please reach out to me, if you have questions.
