Dear Mr. Hadwin,
This is Celia Norian, a 34 year full time resident of Palm Springs. I have strong
feelings about the placement of the Marilyn statue. I am unable to attend the
Planning Committee meeting this coming Wednesday. I have attached and copied
below my comments about this. I would appreciate it very much if you would share
these comments with the committee members.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Celia Norian

Re: Marilyn Statue
I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposed permanent placement of
the Marilyn Monroe statue in the middle of Museum Way.
While I appreciate the artistic merit the statue may hold, its current location directly
contradicts the purpose for which I, along with many others, voted in favor of
Proposition J in 2011. The creation of Museum Way was intended to provide an
unobstructed visual path leading directly to the art museum.
The statue, placed in the center of the roadway, disrupts this intended flow and
creates a visual obstacle. This not only detracts from the intended experience of
Museum Way, but also potentially overshadows the art museum itself.
I urge the Planning Commission to reconsider the statue's placement and prioritize
the original vision for Museum Way as a clear and direct connection to our city's art
collection.
