Dispatchers from the Palm Springs Police Department received reports from civilians of a male armed with a knife walking along the public roadway making verbal threats as he approached pedestrians. Palm Springs Police Officers arrived and contacted the male subject, who became physical with the responding officers. In the course of the physical confrontation, an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect sustained non -fatal injuries, when struck by officer gunfire. Pursuant to the on -going investigation, Case Agent, Detective Dickey requested I respond to the crime scene for a follow up canvass effort— in an attempt to locate a possible knife, and / or 20 additional witnesses and media / surveillance. 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 August 13, 2019 On August 13, 2019, during the light of day, Detective Dickey and I responded to the intersection of the crime scene and conducted a cursory search of the general area, with an emphasis on the north perimeter "Bank of America" landscape area, which is directly adjacent to where the shooting occurred. The emphasis was placed on this area because there is / was a heavy range of floral ground cover. I walked the entire perimeter of the floral covering, as well as the stucco retaining wall borders along the north -south traversing walkways of the east and west sides of the building. Neither Detective Dickey nor I located a knife or facsimile thereof. Detective Dickey located and obtained a witness statement from a subject who had direct contact with the suspect (refer to Detective Dickey's supplemental report for further information). We also checked the local businesses for additional surveillance, however were not successful with locating any business owners, who might have been in possession of additional surveillance footage. August 20, 2019 On August 20, 2019, Detective Dickey and responded back to the crime scene area, in an additional attempt to locate any items of evidentiary value, to include an edged weapon or facsimile within the area categorized as the crime scene back on August 8, 2019. We were told that their camera angles captured a portion of the public street near the crime scene (refer to Detective Dickey's supplemental report for further details of possible footage of the August 81h incident).
