INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: No, sir.
INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Let me just -- let me just --
INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: We have your statement, and he -- he has a good recollection
of everything that happened, so -- just sorry that it happened to you, man, and --
Oh, you know, I grew up in --
INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: You -- I know --
-- the most dangerous place in the world -- -- so --
INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: But still -- (inaudible).
INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: What part of ?

5
6 No. It's, like --
7
8 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Do you live right off of --
9
10 (inaudible).
11
12 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: -- ?
13

19
20 INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: So you got -- you sound like you have ; right?
21
22 Yeah.
23
24 INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: Yeah, see, man, you don't -- yeah, man, we know you
25 (inaudible).
26
27 Yeah, I -- I -- I came out here for that same reason. I was
28 doing bad out there in . I was, you know, messing around with the wrong people,
29 and then --
30
31 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Uh-huh.
32
33 -- I just (inaudible).
34
35 (heavy static)
36
37 INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: Time to move on.
38
39 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: And now you got -- now you got your own place, huh?
40
41 Yeah, now I got my own place. I'm years old. I got my

6
7 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: How long you been here?
8
9 Four years.
10
11 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Four years?
12
13 So here, yeah.
14
15 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah, in this -- in this shop?
16
17 Yeah, I been since -- I been -- I moved over here in 2010
18 from .
19
20 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: But you've been in this shop for four years?
21
22 Yeah.
23
24 (heavy static)
25
26 I would imagine this is a busy street. This gets pricey to be here, huh?
27
28 Somewhat.
29
30 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah.
31
32 We make it work. We started off as four guys, and I ended
33 up adding three more stations, because we were busy.
34
35 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah.
36
37 And now -- now I need a bigger place. I outgrew this place.
38 I'm looking for a bigger location.
39
40 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Are you guys mostly walk-in? Or no, it's all appointments?
41
42 All appointments.

3 Most -- we take walk-ins, but it's all -- mostly all
4 appointments.
5
6 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: You just stagger them. You just say, hey, you come in at
7 8:00. You come in at 9:30.
8
9 Well, we have a booking system.
10
11 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah.
12
13 So they go online, and they just, pretty much, check -- check
14 for availability.
15
16 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah.
17
18 And that's how they book.
19
20 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Hmmmm, that's pretty good. That's awesome, man.
21
22 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we started off charging 20 bucks. We
23 charge 30 now. I had high demand, so it's like --
24
25 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: 30 for the haircut?
26
27 Yeah.
28
29 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah. Little more for the beard and the haircut.
30
31 (heavy static)
32
33 That's cool.
34
35 It just is quality work, that's all. So people like that, you
36 know.
37
38 INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: Sure.
39
40 Our quality work speaks for itself, so people are willing to
INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: All appointments?
41 pay for it.
42
43 INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: Sure.

3 a -- and beard trim, and how long are they sitting in the chair?
4
5 About -- about an hour -- 45 to -- minutes to an hour.
6
7 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah.
8
9 Yeah. Just give them full service, and a hot towel, hot lather,
10 we (inaudible), you know, straight razor, you know, aftershave, all that stuff -- all the good stuff,
11 and we pam them. We, pretty much, pamper them.
12
13 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah, where'd you learn that?
14
15 Out here.
16
17 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Oh, really? Doing it in, like, garages and stuff and --
18
19 No. I started off -- because my dad -- my dad's a cobbler.
20
21 (heavy static)
22
23 He's a shoemaker here. He has a shoe repair in downtown Palm Springs.
24
25 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Uh-huh.
26
27 And across the street, there's a bar -- there's a barber.
28
29 And he would always tell me, like, "Dude, I -- I need -- I need a barber that will come help
30 me out."
31
32 And I'm, like, "I don't know anything about barbering."
33
34 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Uh-huh.
35
36 He said, "I'll teach you."
37
38 I'm, like, "You sure?"
39
40 I said, "All right. Fuck it. I'll learn."
41
42 And I started watching him, and then I started working for him, and then started learning,
43 started getting better, and went to school, got my license.

2 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Uh-huh.
3
4 I actually, went through -- went through some rough times to
5 get my license. I went to a fake school.
6
7 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Oh, by accident?
8
9 It was a school that wasn't accredited.
10
11 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Oh.
12
13 INVESTIGATOR HARVEY: Yeah.
14
15 And they were just scamming people, and that -- that -- after
16 that, I got really depressed. At one point, I almost killed myself.
17
18 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Hmmmm? Hmmmm.
19
20 And --
21
22 (beeping)
23
24 -- I was only 19.
25
26 And I was, "Man, I wasted nine months of my life for you guys to tell me that I can't get my
27 license?"
28
29 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Uh-huh.
30
31 And I was just -- I was just losing it.
32 And I was, like -- my dad's, like, "Don't worry about it. I'm going to help you out. Just
33 keep, like, you know, another year of school. It's okay. You'll get through it."
34
35 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Yeah.
36
37 So I went to school, like, twice -- like, two years, and it
38 should have only been nine months.
39
40 INVESTIGATOR DICKEY: Right.
41
42 Took me two years to get my license -- and just kept
43 working, kept working, working, working, working all the way up to right now.
