SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT

SUPPLEMENTAL
SOURCE: On Thursday August 8, 2019 I was working my assignment as the dayshift patrol
sergeant. My shift was scheduled to end at 1630 hours and I was briefing the oncoming sergeant,
Sgt. Andre, when we overhead a call of a fight involving 4 subjects in the area of Bank of
America at 588 S. Palm Canyon Drive.
OFFICER STATEMENT: At approximately 1420 hours as Sgt. Andre and I talked we heard
officers arrive at the scene of the call. My attention was drawn when I heard Officer Enriquez say
they were "Physical". Immediately thereafter we heard Officer Enriquez says she had deployed
her Taser. Sgt. Andre and I began running to our cars from the sergeant's office. Prior to even
getting out the police parking lot I heard Officer Enriquez broadcast "Shots fired, stage medical".
I then drove directly to the scene. When I arrived I drove south on S. Indian Canyon, south of
Ramon Road. Just prior to the intersection of Camino Parocela I looked to my right (West) and I
saw Officer Enriquez standing in a dirt construction area. I parked and exited my vehicle and
approached her. As I got closer I could see Officer Clift and Etchason holding down a male
dressed in dark clothing, wearing a backpack. I briefly saw Officer Etchason applying a
tourniquet to the subject's right leg. I looked to the west and saw Officer Burton, who was
bleeding from the nose and the right hand. I asked Officer Enriquez if she was a "shooter" and
she replied she was. I asked her if she was the only one who fired shots and she replied she was.
In an effort to obtain a public safety statement I asked her to tell me how many rounds were fired,
what direction she fired and if any suspects were unaccounted for. Officer Enriquez replied that
during the physical fight the suspect was biting Officer Burton on the hand and he could not get
free of him. Officer Enriquez said she deployed her Taser for 3 cycles and it was ineffective. It
was then she drew her handgun and shot the suspect one time in the leg in a downward trajectory
towards the ground. I could see Officers had the suspect on the ground and somewhat controlled.
I then escorted Officer Enriquez to her patrol car and sat her down in the air conditioning. I
assigned Officer Calleros as partner officer. I directed Officer Enriquez not to discuss the
incident with anyone outside of her legal counsel at this point.
I then assisted in directing resources at the scene. Once the scene was stabilized I
remained onscene until investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department arrived. I
waited until my police car was photographed and Investigator Paz released me from the scene. I
then drove to PSPD and authored this report. No further information at this time.
