HomeMy WebLinkAbout25191RESOLUTION NO. 25191 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA ADOPTING THE PALM SPRINGS LOCAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN ANNEX TO THE RIVERSIDE COUNTY OPERATIONAL AREA MULTI -JURISDICTIONAL LOCAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN AS REQUIRED BY THE FEDERAL DISASTER MITIGATION PLAN AS REQUIRED BY THE FEDERAL DISASTER MITIGATION AND COST RECOVERY ACT OF 2000 WHEREAS, President William J. Clinton signed H.R. 707, the Disaster Mitigation and Cost Reduction Act of 2000, into law on October 30,2000; and WHEREAS, the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires all jurisdictions to be covered by a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan to be eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency post -disaster funds; and WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs acted as the lead agency in the development of the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan; and WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs coordinated the development of the Local ' Hazard Mitigation Plan in conjunction with the Riverside County Operational Area Multi - Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan; and WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs and the participating jurisdiction's authority are within the Riverside County Operational Area; and WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs is concerned about mitigating potential losses from natural and man-made disasters before they occur; and WHEREAS, the plan identifies potential hazards, potential losses, and mitigation measures to limit losses; and WHEREAS, the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services has reviewed the plan on behalf of the Federal Emergency Management Agency; and WHEREAS, formal adoption of the plan by the City of Palm Springs City Council is required before final approval of the plan can be obtained from the Federal Emergency Management Agency; and WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs has determined that it would be in the best interest of the City to adopt the Riverside County Operational Area Multi -Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan with Palm Springs Annex. ' THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Resolution No. 25191 Page 2 SECTION 1. The City Council hereby adopts the Riverside County Operational ' Area Multi -Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, which is hereby incorporated by reference, to meet the requirements of the Disaster Mitigation and Cost Reduction Act of 2000 and directs the Riverside County Emergency Management Department to forward the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan to the California Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency on behalf of the City and all other adopting jurisdictions for final approval.
