Vice Chair Newby indicated that he was willing to serve on that committee. Commissioner Rankins and Vice Chair Newby thanked Commissioner Severin and Sutton- Weiss for their hard work in making the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast such a successful event. Commissioner Rankins explained his abstaining earlier in the meeting was because he tries to remain neutral while things are in transition. He said it had nothing to do with people or the issue. 12. STAFF COMMENTS: Staff reported that the City of Palm Springs has been selected for inclusion in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2015 Municipal Equality Index. The Human Rights Campaign will be reviewing a total of 408 cities and Palm Springs was selected due to the high proportion of same sex couples. Chair Wilson Barton noted that in the past the City received 100 percent on the index largely due to the existence of an LGBT Police Task Force and the HRC she said. City Council has made its appointments to the HRC. Commissioner Dee Dee Wilson Barton was reappointed to serve another three years. New Commissioners include Denise Chappell and Eduardo Carriazo who have been appointed to serve three- year terms. 13.
