March 28, 2024 City of Palm Springs City Council Chamber / City Hall 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way Palm Springs, CA. 92262 760.323.8204 Attn: City Clerk Re: Written letter to be entered in the Public record and made available for public Inspection for the March 28, 2024 (5:30PM) Palm Springs City Council meeting - Agenda Item: 3.A (proposed attempt to control private sector property - ALPR devices) Dear current City Council members, This letter is in opposition of the City of Palm Springs, California implementation of regulation (policies) in regards to private sector businesses and or personal (Individual) owned (purchased) Automated License plate Recognition (reader) cameras (ALPR's). The placement and monitoring of those Invasive surveillance devices within City owned and operated (Public Right of way) and private properties shouldn't be under the control of the City government. City taxpayer's shouldn't be obligated for the potential legal ramifications from claimed protection from ALPR's and the risks of having unsightly right-of-way obstructions that could cause increased risks to roadway traffic and pedestrian accidents. Californias (SB34) that outlines the required "safeguards" for the implementation of ALPR's in California has construted major challenges for Resident's to obtain and perserve vanishing privacy of ones travelling details within areas of ALPR surveillance programs. Please consider that the "surveillance state" will not protect the states political elements from it's own installation of a "Police State" enforcement encampment area. Politicians movements and religious group assembly plus other medical procedures of individuals are at risk of continuous surveillance and potential unlawful actions from actors that once were trusted co- actors in the surveillance state.
