Please do not approve the development of a drive through only Starbucks at Raquet Club and Palm Canyon. Firstly,
it seems that one of the purposes Starbucks has in locating there is to drive out a local coffee business, and replace
it with a corporate coffee shop. Secondly, it seems the potential location provides one more option of people
staying in their cars as they prepare to leave the city. This possible project is destructive, not constructive to
community building and doesn’t belong in Palm Springs.
Thank you,
City of Palm Springs

I oppose the drive-thru Starbucks at Palm Canyon and Raquet Club. The increase in traffic will pose a danger to both
pedestrians and vehicles. There are already four options to get coffee at that location, two of which offer drive-thru.
This will likely result in a loss of business to the other locations, one of which is a wonderful independent business.
Please do not approve this.

Hi Mayor Bernstein,
As you know, I have been concerned about the plan for a drive-through only coffee shop at the
corner of N. Palm Canyon Drive @ Racquet Club. It’s on the agenda for tonight’s council
meeting.
I’m pleased to see the many changes incorporated into the developer’s plans as submitted. I’ve
reviewed the council meeting agenda, and am relieved that much of what I and many
neighbors objected to has been addressed. Unfortunately, the developer is Starbucks, and
that’s not something that I can embrace, as I prefer unique, locally owned businesses such as
the adjacent 4 Paws Coffee. I fear that a Starbucks at this location will be detrimental to 4
Paws. This may be a case of “If a corporate entity like Starbucks doesn’t develop this site, it’s
unlikely that a small business will” so without this, it may sit vacant for another 20 years.
Sadly, I don’t see any way that this can legally be prevented from moving forward, so we are
losing our charm and looking more like Phoenix every day.
I hope that this experience and process can somehow help shape the update to our General
Plan in a way that (legally) encourages local businesses.
Cheers,
Tim O'Bayley

I’m reaching out regarding the proposed new Starbucks at Palm Canyon Drive and Racquet Club Road. I live close to
this intersection. As a full-time resident and busy working parent of a small child I strongly endorse this proposal.
While I understand there may be design aesthetics to be sorted, a second drive through coffee option makes it a lot
easier for Palm Springs parents who can’t easily take their small children out of the car for coffee stops, especially in
the summer. Thank you.
Thank you,
City of Palm Springs
