The Friends depend on the the building for all functions related to our book sales. Last year’s revenue was nearly $50,000. In addition, the sales events are a coming together of the PS community to further the goals of the Library. The current plan reduces the Friends’ footprint in the main building and without the Frey we would be in danger of losing the program all together. Please fulfill the pledge the Measure J committee made and include the Frey renovation in the approved scope. Thank you, City of Palm Springs This is an automated message generated by Granicus. Dear City Council Members: As a Board member of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library, I would like you to realize how important the library project and the Frey Building rehab is to all of us in the community. The Friends as you may know, raise money and for important library events and projects including furnishings, special events such as Palm Springs Speaks, the summer reading program, food for the koi pond fish, staff coffee, etc. --- and beloved by all library patrons, the "Hot Off The Press" books. We raise these funds primarily by sales of donated books at sales in the library, at the Frey Building, and online. I myself have raised over $12,000 in 2023 in online sales. This would not be possible without the workspace at the Frey Building. We ask that you include both buildings in the upcoming project. Thank you for your kind consideration. I'm writing to express my strong support for the proposed scope of work identified in Item 3C, for the January 11 council meeting, especially related to the Frey Building. The Frey is critical to the work of the Friends for book sales events, which foster community and produce real dollars ($50k last year). When I was in the Frey recently, I was kind of taken aback by its deterioration. Palm Springs and its community deserve better. Please fulfill the pledge the Measure J committee made and include the Frey renovation in the approved scope. Otherwise we may have to resort to trying to charge for the plastic fruit. Full Name/Nombre LAURA MILLER City of Residence/Ciudad de residencia PALM SPRINGS, Phone (optional) /Teléfono (opcional) Email (optional/opcional) Your Comments/Sus comentarios I am a board member of the Friends of the PS Library and am writing to support the proposed work as outlined in item 3C of the 1/11/24 Council Meeting. I am especially concerned about improvements needed at the JC Frey Building. The Frey building houses literally thousands of donated books which we sell at the library, at special sales at the Frey, and on line. These sales generate needed revenue to the library to help fund purchase books, media, passport photos equipment and support events like Summer Reading and Palm Springs Speaks. The current proposed plan to renovate the library does not include any space for us to store, sort and organize our book donations, some of which are rare and valuable. Without the Frey Building our books sale programs would be jeopardized and the tens of thousands of dollars we raise annually would be lost. Please ensure that the proposed scope of work includes the renovations desperately needed at the Frey. Thank you, City of Palm Springs This is an automated message generated by Granicus. Many of my happiest memories took place at the library. I am raising my children in this community, and look forward to their continued patronage of public spaces here, including the library. With that said, several aspects of the library have endured since my own childhood—some of it positive (e.g., a welcoming environment) but much of it in dire need of change (its facilities). Renovation of the main library and the JC Frey Building will bring much needed improvements to this critical public space. I write to express my strong support of item 3.C. in the January 11, 2024 City Council agenda. Thank you, City of Palm Springs This is an automated message generated by Granicus. Dear Mayor and City Council, I applaud your efforts in getting this long overdue Library renovation project on track to be completed. The library has been lucky enough to have a great architectural history and it’s time to enhance that and replace worn out infrastructure. I served on the board for 12 years and three times as president and I served on two previous renovation and architectural subcommittees. For various reasons these projects have been delayed or put on the back burner. It’s really time to address an institution that serves over 20,000 a month and produces wonderful services and access and programming for the community. This is an opportunity as well to invest in the resurrection of sunrise Park and the JC Frey building as important elements of creating a vital community area in conjunction with the Mizell senior center and the Boys and Girls club. This has the opportunity to transform that area, along with the leisure center proposed renovation’s, into a truly dynamic public park with a wide variety of services. I hope your lend yoursupport to the full project, including the event center aspect, to truly create something the citizens of Palm Springs can be proud of and something that will serve the community well into the future. In its current state, it's not apparent what the William Cody building is whilst driving on Sunrise Blvd. The library reimagined would serve future generations with up-to-date technologies, programs, and well-appointed/thought- out spaces to study, learn, and congregate. Please consider helping our city be proud of its library and the amazing opportunity available to see a new building to fruition. And wouldn't it be great to inspire another reason to add to Palm Springs fabulousness!? Thank you, City of Palm Springs This is an automated message generated by Granicus.
