City of Palm Springs
Dear Council Members,
On October 25th, we went before the Planning Commission and received an approval for our proposed
Starbucks building at the SEC of Palm Canyon & Racquet Club. At that mee ng, concerns were expressed
that the project was “drive-through only”, with no pedestrian-oriented service point. On November 6th
we also received ARC approval with specific condi ons, and we are prepared to meet those condi ons.
As with the other Starbucks stores in Palm Springs, we would very much like to be a produc ve partner
with the community, so we have gone back to Starbucks to discuss a proac ve response to the concerns
that we heard. We have met with the Starbucks representa ves, and they have agreed to the following
addi onal features:
Pedestrian Friendly
1)A large, covered pa o has been added to the building to add tables and chairs for customers to
enjoy.
2)A pedestrian walk-up window has been added to the building for pedestrians to walk up and
order drinks and food.
3)Bicycle racks have been added to the pa o area so bicyclists can u lize the walk-up window and
pa o areas.
4)The required public restroom has been added to the building as required by the addi on of the
outdoor pa o area.
5)The second drive-through lane has been eliminated to enhance the pedestrian use of the
project.
Architectural Elements
1)We will be addressing the ARC comments to provide be er ar cula on of the building facing
North Palm Canyon Drive.
2)We will be adding a “Keep Clear” marking at the entrance of our Drive Through lane to eliminate
conflict with the adjacent property owners drive-through exit.
To be a good partner, requires being a good listener. We listened to the comments from the Planning
Commission, the Architectural Review Commi ee, and the community and worked with Starbucks to
ensure that the project will be a posi ve addi on to this neighborhood and the en re City. We look
forward to working with the City Council and addressing any concerns that remain
