Sunny Dunes Road Palm Springs, CA 92264 November 9, 2023 City Council of Palm Springs 3200 East Tahquitz Canyon Way Palm Springs, CA 92262 Dear Honorable Council Members, We, the undersigned, enthusiastically support the request to add Chapter 2.65 to the Palm Springs Municipal Code (PSMC) to allow for the formation of commercial districts and to provide guidelines for the administration of the districts. We believe this new ordinance supports the Council’s mission “(to provide) excellent and responsive public services”. The South Palm Canyon and Sunny Dunes Business Association was created to promote and advocate for businesses in South Palm Springs. Our mission is to collectively work as business and merchant owners toward the goal of bringing business to the designated district. We advocate for solutions to neighborhood issues which affect this mission. Our business owners include two of the oldest-operating businesses in Palm Springs—we have a lot of history here! We have identified over 108 operating businesses in our district and currently list over 50 active businesses and community partners in our group. We have an active Facebook page, Google group, and have held ten meetings over the past eleven months. South Palm Springs is not in the “tourist zone” and we feel tends to be overlooked by city-run marketing campaigns and services. Our business zone tends to support residents while uptown businesses attract visitors. This area is especially important to locals. We have the same interests as main street but need help driving commerce and making improvements in the health, safety, and welfare of our business owners and clients. We are delighted the City of Palm Springs has plans to foster and support these partnerships and has engaged a Central Business District Administrator. We look forward to working together.
