It's long looked underutilized to me as compared the gorgeous Ruth Hardy Park nearby. There are so many homes here in the northern part of PS that can utilize this park. I strongly support the installation of both playground equipment and shade structures. Thank you! Thank you, City of Palm Springs This is an automated message generated by Granicus. Hon. Mayor Garner and City Council Members: I write to express my support for the approval of Cooperative Purchase Agreement 23C089 with Miracle Recreation Equipment Company to install playground equipment and shade structures at Demuth and Victoria Parks. I am a resident of Palm Springs. I am a mother, and husband and I are raising our two children here. It is my hope that their lives may be enriched by parks. Regretfully, we have limited our time in local parks, which do not seem to prioritize age or weather-appropriate safety. As a parent, I am encouraged by the proposed shade structures in Demuth and Victoria Parks. This is critical for children of all ages. Notwithstanding the weather, we try to avoid taking our toddler to parks here in Palm Springs due to the lack of available shade. On balance, a trip to the park does not seem worth the risk, when it means direct sun exposure and playground equipment that lacks any protection from overheating. For several months of the year, the equipment is simply unusable given how hot certain of the materials become in the heat. I noted that both proposals lack a water feature of any sort. As a child growing up in Palm Springs, I myself benefited from working water features at my local parks. These are an important way to regulate heat exposure and avoid some of the perils that come with the weather. I know there is an infrastructure to support such systems and would urge inclusion of these important features. I write to ask that the city approve this agreement, and to consider adding water features. I would also hope, for the sake of my own children and all others who seek to enjoy local parks, that one day these types of structures are common across all parks here in Palm Springs. 04/287/2023 Public Comment Item 1.I
