Would request info regarding the discussion of these topics in a public meeting or forum.
These are big ticket items which. as a full time resident of Palm Springs, it would have been
good to know of discussion and opportunity to comment.
I have lived in areas that these issues have become problematic. It seems that saying that it had
to be updated because last rules were made in 1995 is a bit simplistic.
Thank you.

Christy:
I am in favor of making the City ordinance "gender neutral" with respect to the
female breast. New York City does it as do many other progressive cities.
Thank you

Thanks, Lauren, for clarifying.
No doubt the ordinance revisions would streamline the process of permitting adult businesses and make
them more practicable to operate.
What I would say to Christy or any other councilmember is if you believe more adult businesses,
including sex clubs and strip clubs, would benefit the community, vote yes. If you don’t, vote no. But
either way, remember we have nothing to prove.
Long ago Palm Springs legalized Gay, and every day of every week of every year not only do we
celebrate Gay, we celebrate all forms of sexual identity and expression. Without fear of reprisal or
negative repercussions. Palm Springs is a safe space, a safe place for everyone. Which is one reason I
love to call Palm Springs home, as a gay man.
We don’t have to prove anything to anybody.
Take care,
Cary

Hi Cary,
Adult businesses (including strip clubs) are already allowed in industrial districts in the north
and east sides of the city. The only industrial area in District 4 is adjacent to the airport along
Ramon Road, and adult business wouldn't be able to locate in the Ramon corridor. The
industrial areas along Gene Autry and Farrell are in District 1 and 2, and again, they're already
currently zoned for adult business use (but properties adjacent to major thoroughfares or
residences would be restricted from adult use).

Hi, Lauren.
Thank you for the response, and for digging into this. Super appreciate the interest and concern.
The ordinance doesn’t just apply to C-2 zones, but to industrial zones. What’s your take on the impact
to District 4 relative to the M zones? My bet is we will see new adult businesses (for better or for worse)
in the M zones on the north and east sides of the city, most likely strip clubs.
Thanks for any insight you can add.
Cary

Hi Cary,
Thank you for your email. I've looked into this extensively and the proposed zoning change would
actually have little to no impact on District 4. Any parcels adjacent to a major or secondary thoroughfare
would be ineligible, as well as any parcels that are adjacent to residential properties (adjacent = next
door to or across the street from). Because of these limitations, none of the C-2 zoned areas in District 4
would be made eligible for adult businesses, even if the Council decides to move forward with the

proposed zoning change. Our district doesn't currently have any adult businesses, so the other proposed
changes (which regulate outdoor lighting, security plans, operating hours, and other similar
considerations) also wouldn't impact District 4.
The staff report for this item does contain a map that shows a C-2 zoned area in District 4 (near
Cherokee and East Palm Canyon), however I clarified with city staff that the properties in that area
would actually be ineligible for adult use because of adjacency issues (being too close to both a
residential area and East Palm Canyon, which is a major thoroughfare).
We appreciate your being involved, please let me know if I can help answer any other questions about
this agenda item.
Best,
Lauren
