I am writing in support of the addition “16.04.145 Entering or Remaining Without Legitimate Airport Business
Prohibited." It's a no-brainer that the airport should not be a de facto shelter, and that a city whose economy deeply
relies on tourism and conventions would not allow a small number of transients to trespass in a way that threatens
the health, safety and convenience of a million passengers a year. That said, the trespassing ordinance seems so
vague as to allow officials, for personal or political reasons, to impinge on First Amendment access to public
facilities. Would a journalist need a city permit to cover breaking news at the airport? Could a citizen complaining to
officials at City Hall be threatened with arrest for trespassing? I think a few extra words about Constitutionally
protected activities would improve this ordinance.
Thank you,
City of Palm Springs
