Shameful. A total lack of integrity. LETTERS Palm Springs Councilmember Holstege should resign already Reader submissions View Comments Arrogance seems to be commonplace in politicians but in Palm Springs it extends to shameless self-promotion and total disregard for the well- being of the city itself. Christy Holstege is the poster child for such displays. Her wanton disregard for the taxpayers of Palm Springs is outrageous. In burnishing her "woke" credentials she has opened a Pandora's box of problems for the city. First, she attacked Frank Bogert without the slightest understanding of the facts surrounding Section 14 and used that as an excuse to start the discussion of reparations. Everyone wants to see justice for those negatively impacted. The proper restitution is for the city to invest in improvement in North Palm Springs. Instead of championing a grocery store, parks and recreational facilities for those neighborhoods, Holstege encouraged a suit against the city for as much as $2 billion, yep, billion with a B. Instead of advocating for individual plaintiffs she should be defending the city and finding sensible solutions for an underserved neighborhood. Her shameless appearance and 10-minute talk at the press conference in Los Angeles illustrates that she craves the limelight at any and all costs. Many voted for her just to get her out of town and lost in Sacramento. She has clearly disqualified herself from all discussions of reparations. She should resign already and get a job as a political operative, or join the attorneys suing the city for reparations since she's already done their job for them. She may have single-handedly bankrupted Palm Springs. Thanks much for your service. Dear Palm Springs City Council, I am writing to express my concern about the proposal to further restrict short term rentals in our community. I understand that the intention behind these regulations may be to address certain issues, but I believe that the negative impacts of such legislation far outweigh any potential benefits. First and foremost, our economy is currently facing a downturn and we need to be doing everything we can to support local businesses and homeowners. Restricting short term rentals will inevitably lead to a decline in tourism and a decrease in revenue for both the city and individual homeowners who rely on short term rentals as a source of income. Additionally, short term rentals bring a sense of vibrancy and beauty to our neighborhoods. They bring in a diverse group of visitors who are often interested in experiencing all that our community has to offer. This helps to create a more vibrant and dynamic atmosphere in our neighborhoods. Furthermore, there is already a significant amount of legislation in place to address any potential issues that may arise from short term rentals. Rather than passing more regulations, we should be focusing on enforcing the existing rules and working with homeowners and the community to find solutions to any problems that may arise. I urge the City Council to consider the negative impacts that further restricting short term rentals will have on our community, economy, and homeowners. Instead of passing more legislation, let's work together to find ways to support and enhance the positive contributions that short term rentals make to our community. Government Officials, All, Mayor Garner, Mr. Bernstein, Mr. de Harte, First, Congratulations on your recent appointments. Mr. de Harte and Mr. Bernstein, if you two have questions or concerns, please let me know. You both have significant roles in this community and should have heard about the illegal occupation of Kaptur Plaza by corrupt "developers" Scott Timberlake, Anne Krizman and Attorney Diane Blasdel / Blasdel Guinan Law by now. I wanted to forward you all the following public comment that has been posted in the Desert Sun. In addition, I just spent 88 days in jail for missing a court date. A court date that should have never happened if I were awarded due process of law when the Fire Marshal Violation Report of 700 E Tahquitz Canyon Way was written in May 2019. I lost 88 days of my life being harassed in Banning, lost 88 days due to corruption and inaction of Government officials that lied when they swore to uphold the law, but instead defrauded me out of my store Dash Fenton, my income, my happiness and my former life. Please note that we are all accountable for the information we receive. Thank you for your time in this very urgent public safety and corruption matter. 700 E Tahquitz Canyon Way must be red tagged and vacated to save human lives. With Hope, Shad Fenton Here is the post: Community, Riverside Superior Court Judge Kira Klatchko ( Palm Springs Civil Court ) denied our safety by corruptly dismissing PSC 1904066 a civil damages case against "developers" and defendants Scott Timberlake, Anne Krizman and their attorney of record Diane Blasdel of Blasdel Guinan Law. Although fraud on the court was present by the defendants, civil rights violations profound in evidence, a Fire Marshal Violation Report deaming the buildings new interior suites were constructed illegally without egress ( or a mandatory Fire Escape 12/15/2022 Public Comment Non Agenda route ) Judge Klatchko was not only negligent in her discovery, she herself denied due process by simply disconnecting a court call hearing, obstructing justice and denied public safety. 700 E Tahquitz Canyon Way ( Kaptur Plaza ) all 5 interior suites were built out illegally from 2018 to 2019 by Mr. Timberlake, Ms. Krizman and Diane Blasdel of Blasdel Guinan Law. These fraudsters bypassed all building and safety processes by corrupt alliances with city officials City Manager David Ready, Building and Safety Director Gilbert Estrada, Police Chief Bryan Reyes , Fire Chief Kevin Nalder and other aligned government officials. To this day, the building remains occupied illegally due to the fact that on the day of the Fire Marshal Report ( May 2019 ) Fire Chief Kevin Nalder was lawfully requried to red tag and vacate the building due to the extreme, life threatening construction defects. Instead, Chief Nalder obstructed justice, just as Ready, Reyes, and Estrada had. 4 Years later, Palm Springs residents now have an interim Fire Chief, an Interim City Manager, two new sworn council members in de Harte and Bernstein, and city departments still corrupted by inaction, alignment and color of law. Although the new guidelines are being implemented, there are roughly 45 active permits that are awaiting approval that were submitted PRIOR to the changes made. This is not a fair practice and the people who submitted through the outlines process were never made aware of changes. After my safety inspection was completed, after paying for a pool inspection, and setting the house up for a STR, I was only informed of the new decision when Inasked on the status on my application. This is an unfair business practice and has impacted roughly 45 other applicants who may or may not know what is happening with their application. Talk about housing issues is Palm Springs East LA in the 90’s with crack house after crack house. We can’t all afford to be in Tennis Club or Old Las Palmas as generational money passes down. No we chose Palm Springs bc of the ability to short term rent as much as we could and with that income plan to continue to improve our property and hope that the income the city receives goes to good use. I’d like to voice my opinion regarding the City’s decision to double Desert Water Agency’s (DWA) $3/square foot contribution bringing it up to $6/square foot to remove grass. I started my application with DWA to remove my backyard grass in October. I was shocked to learn I would not qualify for the City’s additional funding for my 727 square foot plot as those with current active applications were being excluded. Why!? Why am I penalized for having the motivation and taking the initiative ?! I hadn’t even started the project yet… I met with Lindsay Paige at City Hall this month and learned some funding was allocated to those in the application process, but yesterday it was confirmed by DWA that I am not one of those projects. This screams “just not right”. I have since completed the project. I am saving water like everyone else in this process but because I had the fortitude I am not rewarded. I was told the City’s goal was to acquire new grass removal accounts by their added contribution. I understand that but to not grant the benefit to some who jumped on the wagon earlier is truly UNFAIR. Full Name/Nombre Kevin Jones City of Residence/Ciudad de residencia Palm Springs, Phone (optional) /Teléfono (opcional) Email (optional/opcional) Your Comments/Sus comentarios Even before the housing debate made its way to Palm Springs it was not a cheap market and always a sought after address. The balance of STR income made it possible for a lot of good people who care about community, neighbors and building a home even if it is a second home. Our choices were Phoenix or Palm Springs and we chose PS bc of the ability to rent 36 stays which made PS attainable. Unfortunately we have only been met with several naysayer neighbors (not all bc we have made a lot of good friends as well) who borderline bully us even if we are there several times a month! It’s disappointing that this city board has let a few bully voices infiltrate their decisions rather than hear all sides especially at the risk of losing revenue. The current plan doesn’t solve any of the housing issues it only empowers bullies and takes away from a community’s financial ability to help fund community issues. The person reading are writing notes on a sticky note. I see them on camera They are not professional. This is the 4 billing company in less than my three year stay. The property light goes off at 3am this is a health and Safety issue. Did I say upper management never responds. At move on I asked about rent increases I was informed that it would only be 15 per year due to a reason. The rent is due to increase 35 February 2024. That is not what I was told by the on site staff at move in. That was a major concerns the manager confirmed by saying yes the owner did not want people to start moving out..An attorney came to speak to the residents there were about 35-40 residents in attendance. We plan to move forward. I've worked for Project Base Section 8 Housing. This is worse no protection against slum loads. At least low income has fair housing laws to protect them. Dear Mayor Lisa Middleton, City Clerk I appreciate your sharing by saying at council meeting you tend to say 'no' to adult live nude sex clubs. You know so well, the facts that we are a small city, adult nude live sex clubs we can and must do without. The sunny dunes area has serious problems now with vagrant, homeless hanging out. You have done the right thing to have Starbucks close for weeks at a time. And finally we see it is now permanently closed as a result of repeat breaches, bad location full of transients, homeless near Motel 6, the riverside wash, bridge, Industrial place where vagrants camp, hangouts. Risky in any event.. the Cahuilla elementary school is close by, kids do often walk around Riverside drives, San Lucas, Camino Parocela,Sunny Dunes to streets off Ramon/Parocela.. kids do walk, bike ride to school which does take in side streets to Sunny dunes. Hard to witness talk about something that is not priority nor positive.. This can only bring trouble, police calls, arrests. This is simply not of any importance whatsoever. Hearing Woods mention Sunrise way former gas co, Sect 14 tribe land,is just more showing of lack of forethought before even bringing such proposed negative change. In the first place our local tribe is a spirit one, spiritual one, they would not want live nude sex clubs near their new museum, burial cemetary or the like. How insensitive, inept can whoever is behind new proposed mess be? See attached screenshot of vacant former SoCal Gas co.. (council either does not take time to study agenda or facts or details about what is being discussed on agenda-) .. See screenshot that clearly shows gas co is contiguous to Palm Regency condominiums, the gas co property is zoned professional, office because it abuts residential. Do you agree that it is simply ignorant to consider Sunrise way in any event with a church nearby, county health dept adjacent. I can see the tribe as being very upset at the council to even consider any such close to their sacred burial cemetery and their new cultural museum, tribe cemetery west of gas co commercial. We must not have any adult sex clubs in town at all. It is just wrong for this city, period. Too many problems.. DO NOT ADD MORE PROBLEMS>>>lets focus please on quiet enjoyment, peace, security. The modesty policy needs to stay in place for certain. The other point is talk of jock strap wearing on the street to clubs is wrong too. If a guy wants to dance in a jock strap then he can simply wear shorts and remove to go on dance floor or the like. But butt naked on dining chair tables as in Reforma or the like is wrong too. The fact that the Reforma back parking lot faces the Del Marco hotel entrance and parking and the Vineyard shopping center..... saying it is okay to walk around in Reforma/Baristo/Palm Canyon parking lot in a jock strap is wrong. This must not be allowed. Council members have got it wrong again. With White party, the convention center street is blocked off for the most part and even then event goers know to wear shorts into the convention center event, then down dress. The pride parade was wrong 12/15/2022 Public Comment Non Agenda to allow the bare butt guy on stilts that walked in the parade just before all the school children who were right behind him walking with Raul Ruiz, family, his twins and their friends. Look at the video...you can see the guy bare butt on stilts with a guy beneath him with lawn blower to blow up the skirt to purposely expose the bare ass. This was wrong and inappropriate clearly with children walking directly after. It is true this is inviting more trouble.. more trouble to an already very very troubled city right now. Lack of sufficient peace officers, ongoing downtown crime with clear drug users, drug addicts, the fentanyl crisis which all night nude sex clubs will no doubt have heavy drug trade, dealers..not to mention possible underage human sex traffickers, prostitutes. Overall this is a bad move for Palm Springs. As it is, many avoid town because of homeless, panhandlers, drug addicts. Instead the city needs to focus on events for all residents, keep a focus on doing more open air concerts in the downtown park. Use the park regularly for resident events. Spend the money on such events to draw locals downtown. The more residents use the park, the less likely the homeless will take it over. Putting adult live sex clubs out at Indian & I-10 is wrong also. The roads are often closed between downtown and there, police cars will get sand blasted going out there daily,,then the city will be needing to pay for police car windshield costs, paint police cars that get sand blasted. It is a remote area too where I-10 traffic will come from Banning with gangs wanting to sell drugs to patrons of adult sex clubs. There will most likely be robberies in addition to gang bang drug deals going on daily there. Look right now at road closures nearly a day or two weekly. So is city going to pay for police to travel the extra time and costs to get to Indian and garnet via Hwy 111 to Haugan Lehman to get to Indian and I-10 adult live sex clubs?? Think about the high costs of such a needless deal... This is so absurd. Time to think, analyze each and every added cost. Not only this but why as a Tourist, Visitor town do we even want to attract low lifes who drink, likely do drugs, amphetamines, cocaine to stay up all night.. you all know very well this is the type who is addicted to live sex drama. This council is in big trouble, the state is in big debt, we are short of police officers, we are being dismissed today when we call PSPD. Many have found the response not so good. You all need to wind down the problems and not open another new can of worms with short of police officers, no jail to arrest and hold sex traffic perpetrators. Close this mess now and keep a dress code with no jock straps on city streets... men can wear shorts or sweatpants to go into dance club and down dress if they wish once inside and garb when they exit. We do not need to see jock straps or leather or the like on public streets. Holstege is wrong to suggest jock straps or thongs on city streets. Sure Splash house is a private event but we do not need exposed body parts in town or on public streets. Lets keep the city classy... we are a tourist city, not seedy strip club areas of Los Angeles or the like. We simply do not need this negative impact in this city, period!! Please, stop this nonsense. It is bad press.. we do not want the prostitutes, female or male to pass the word around that PS is meccas for live adult sex places. This is NOT Las Vegas and we certainly do NOT want our city to be headlined as such. We will lose thousands of visitors who will be so turned off seeing evidence of live sex clubs or the like. 12/15/2022 Public Comment Non Agenda As regards the list of city properties for sale. If the city wishes to sell a number of its properties then I think each property should be listed for sale on the open market. If you like you can ask a number of local resident realtors who live in Palm Springs to put their card in the box. Twenty four properties, 24 local broker business cards, only one card per local broker office. Those who have been licensed here for the most number of years will draw first and so on. For example, I joined in 1976, as third generation Realtor with my family in RE here since 1960. My step dad actually sold the Gas Co the Sunrise Way parcel to build their office there in the early 1970's. Realtors with 30,40, 50 years experience here will price the parcel fairly. List for six months on the open market, manage the sale, close the escrow and be paid standard fee at closing. If the city wishes to hire an appraiser to price initially but if no valid offers then listing can be reviewed for price adjustments and extension of listing. Please close the adult live sex club matter. I would really like to see focus on bringing in more police officers right now, have the peace officers actually focus on the community along with daily calls. But because they say each time they are short staffed, then it is clear that adding more dark live sex clubs is impossible. Please reply that you received this and will read.
