Subject: Sexual Adult Business Expansion in Palm Springs

Hello Palm Springs City Council,
I am all for sexual freedom and safe places to enjoy yourself. I believe controlled businesses are
valuable for this type of activity. However, when I read that the City Council is considering expanding
where these business can operate, including sex clubs, I was horrified. I don't feel this kind of business
has any reason to be anywhere along Palm Canyon Drive. Your main drag to get you through Palm
Springs with sex clubs and porn shops? What kind of impression is that, as you enter or exit this
beautiful city? That's the first and last impression you want people to have of Palm Springs?
Sunny Dunes south to Mr. Lyons? The city can't get control of the crime at Palm Canyon and Sunny
Dunes as it is. Starbucks couldn't even survive because of the crime and homelessness. The city can't
even get the street lights working between Sunny Dunes and Mesquite. Now you want to add adult
sexual businesses to that area? That is absolute insanity and clearly shows the city council has no clue
what's going on in their city. You have two new beautiful housing developments going on right there
with Cody Place and Elan. How is that going to help sales with a new sex club next door?
There are plenty of areas in the city to expand this ordinance. I plead with you to reconsider the areas
being talked about at the north and south end of town. I would be so embarrassed having family driving
in and making that the first impression of where I live.
I would like to suggest additional sex clubs and adult sexual themed businesses in your neighborhoods
first.
If this change will go forward, please notify me personally so that I can sell my home and get out now
before losing value in my home. You have made this a monetary issue and when my home loses value
based on the City Council decision, the City of Palm Springs will be sued for compensation for the
devaluation of my home. I will encourage each of my neighbors to do the same.

Dear Council Members: Keep adult sexually oriented business away from any part of Palm Canyon Drive. 1. The
South End of Palm Canyon needs revitalization not condemnation as the seedy part of town. 2. Once established
these businesses will never leave. It’s permanent. Think liquor stores on PC that have been there for over 60 years.
3. Gay? Straight? Who cares. The patrons are not the best of the best. Be real. There will be hook ups in the parking
lot, hookers, crime, drug deals for sure. And then there’s the homeless right there on the sidewalk. A great mix. 4.
You say San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles in your report. The last I heard people come here to get away from
those gritty, depressing, unsafe cities. 5. My impression is that Palm Springs is a glamourous, fun, welcoming, bright,
sophisticated and safe city for everyone; gay, straight, families, children, cute dogs. Why wreck it? 6. There are many

Bring Palm Canyon Drive up to standard for everyone to enjoy. Please don’t ruin such a well
known and well traveled thoroughfare.

I reside in your district 1 ( The Fairways) and I’m writing in regards to the current proposal related to lifting
restrictions on sexual related businesses. I’m adamantly opposed and feel it would damage our community that is
already struggling with quality of life issues including homelessness and crime.
Not sure what cities Mr kors is citing as an example for a change but if they are San Francisco, Los Angeles,
Seattle, Portland, Eugene, many have moved to Palm Springs recently to escape the deterioration of quality of life in
those cities that have the similar mind-set that is being proposed here.
Palm Spring’s greatest industry is tourism. I don’t see how allowing sex related shops all over the city in visible
areas is going to enhance Palm Springs positive image and attract more tourists.
I question the real reasons and motives for the change now and wonder about special interests that could care less
about damaging Palm Springs national brand as an inclusive, welcoming, beautiful community.
Sincerely
Wayne H Larson

Hello City Council Members, Just want to voice my support for more streamline and realistic rules for sexual related
businesses in Palm Springs. Current rules feel antiquated, and anti LGBTQ at times. PS is gay tourist mecca and
updating current rules would enhance our hospitality reputation. Moreover, it would give existing sexual related
businesses, and potentially new businesses, a clear understanding of what is and is not allowed. Present rules not
clear. Thank you for your consideration.
Thank you,
City of Palm Springs

Subject:Palm Springs council considering opening more of city to sexually oriented business-Desert Sun

To Whom It May Concern, and to Ms. Middleton:
I just read the above mentioned article in The Desert Sun. I am impelled to write to voice my
opinion, and the opinion of many of my neighbors on this idea.
NO!
I had to read the article twice to believe that Kors and Holstege would even suggest such a
venture. This used to be a city of Class. I am older than these two individuals, and I can still
remember my parents coming here to shop in beautiful stores, swim and stay in beautiful
hotels, and admire the cleanliness and beauty of the parks, streets, neighborhoods, and
mountain visitas. We have now become a city full of legalized pot dispensaries, homeless
encampments growing by the day, numerous vacant buildings decaying every month, crime
numbers escalating, and high density Airbnbs and developments...now we want to add more
porn shops, strip clubs, and sexually oriented businesses? This idea is a total insult to our
community. What purpose, other than more money and questionable activity, is there to do
this?
One only needs to drive to any one of our other neighboring cities to see that the focus of their
city councils is to improve the liveability, peacefulness, beauty and CLASS of their
communities! Buildings are finished on time, medians and parkways are kept attractive and
free of debris, weeds, and homeless trash, restrictions and consequences for negative
behaviors are enforced, and NONE of this kind of degrading of the environment is even
considered. I am a gay man, fully accepting and compassionate of others, BUT, I do now want
to live in a city that now welcomes bringing in more strip clubs and porn shops.
This city and its tourist base will certainly decline if ideas like this are allowed to develop. Do
we really want the reputation of being the city that is known for sex shops, strip clubs,
homeless vandalism and encampments, and the stench of pot on every corner? We are heading
in the wrong direction. I speak for many of my neighbors in feeling disrespected and insulted
by this latest trend to tarnish what was once a beautiful and classy city.
