In case I don't get into the public comment section of tonight's meeting, I'm passing along key
characteristics, qualities, and leadership skills I'd like to in our next city manager. Please
forward this to all council members.
What I'd look for in a new city manager:
- Management experience administering a $230+ million annual budget with a police
department and fire department.
- Proven experience in managing with compassion all aspects of homelessness.
- A demonstrated commitment to economic development with an understanding of the
importance of our small business community.
- Success in setting priorities with the city council and leading a city council's strategic goal
achievement. Strong ability to seek realistic solutions.
- Must keep City Council focused on initiating, creating, and setting policy while the City
Manager enacts policy.
- Possesses a deep cultural commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Possess strong listening skills and the ability to communicate with the Mayor, the City
Council, community members, and staff at all levels.
- Leadership for and interaction with the community and possess the ability to keep the
community informed.
- Empathic. Listens to community members and efficiently deals with community concerns
with solutions that benefit all of the community.
- Priority of community relationship building through listening, accountability, and
transparency.
- Listens to the community and allows for ways to provide input.
- Thorough understanding of city planning and experience with the successful implementation
of workforce housing.
- Seeks economic diversity and aggressively supports a robust tourism economy.
-Embrace and respect our City's unique beauty, value historic preservation, and our open
space.
- The ability to make tough decisions for the betterment of the cause. Not be steamrolled by
the most negatively outspoken.
- Questioning outdated and inefficient policies and terminating them, and ensuring that the city
meets and exceeds expectations in terms of services to the public.
