My name is Terrie Andrade and my comments, below are addressing Item D of the July 14, 2022 Palm Springs City Council Agenda: It’s an incredible irony to be addressing a political body regarding an issue that should be exclusively the decision of a free woman living in a free country. But the US Supreme Court has once again usurped this human right, placing it in the hands of politicians and legislators. I never envisioned myself having to again plead before a political entity for a ruling about my right to choose what is best for my personal mental and physical health. Yet, here I am petitioning elected officials to decide in favor of acknowledging a woman’s reproductive choice as a basic human right. While I sincerely hope life's circumstances make it unnecessary for any woman to seek such services... I support, commend and thank you for designating Palm Springs as a safe city for reproductive freedom and access to abortion. Hello, I'd really like to see the downtown businesses get help with the vandalism/defacing. I've lived in Palm Springs for almost 20 years and would like to see the downtown keep improving. Many wonderful new businesses are struggling to survive there and I really hope they can. Also as a healthcare worker, I'm happy to see that we are going to be a sanctuary city for women needing abortions. I feel that taking that right away is only the beginning of the horrible things this SCOTUS has planned for us. Dear Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and City Council: My name is Maribel Nunez from Engage Coachella Valley and I’m writing in support of the city’s resolution to declare Palm Springs a safe city for Reproductive Freedom and access to abortion. Engage Coachella Valley supports reproductive justice rights and that all people should have the right to decide if and when to start a family. It’s vital that people everywhere, including in Palm Springs have access to the resources they need to plan their family. Please support this resolution. All people should be able to decide if and when to start a family. Control over our reproductive decisions is a fundamental human right. The attacks we’re currently witnessing against access to safe and legal abortion are dengerous and will leave those who already face barriers to care without options. I urge you to pass this resolution and to support reproductive rights and access. Declaring Palm Springs a safe city for Reproductive Freedom and access to abortion is an important step in ensuring Palm Springs residents are able to access the high quality, safe and legal reproductive health care that everyone deserves. It is essential that we protect these rights and stand against any attempts to restrict access to safe and legal abortion. Please pass this resolution and support reproductive rights. Dear Palm Springs City Council, My name is Lex Ortega, and I writng to submit a public comment on behalf of the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert, here in Palm Springs. The LGBTQ Center supports Agenda Item D, the resoluton to make Palm Springs a safe city for reproductve freedom and access to aborton. At the Center, we are allied with all people who need aborton care and reproductve justce in our desert community. We understand the importance of bodily autonomy, the right to decide if and when to start family, to right to parent the children we have, and decide what a family looks like for us as LGBTQ people. We know that legal access ofen doesn’t mean practcal access, and in an era where concerted efort is being put into removing and blocking access to our fundamental human rights across many issues and causes, including reproductve rights and transgender and LGB rights, we ask that you pass this resoluton and contnue to support afordable, accessible, reproductve care for all who need it throughout the City.
