Honorable Mayor Middleton and City Council Members I am currently Chair of the Palm Springs Library Board of Trustees and have served the Trustees for 6 years. Though my term is nearing an end, my passion and dedication to the Library will go on and I want to support the City of Palm Springs Public Library anyway I can. I am extremely disappointed that the Library Renovation has once again fallen off the Measure J and City Budget Priorities as a City funded project. Though it is included it has a footnote that the State Library Grant will be a requirement for the City to fund the project. I will admit I may not be reading the agenda correctly and if I am not, I beg someone to correct me and to further explain. As you know, The Library Renovation was used as a justification to the voters when Measure J was introduced and to date the amount of Measure J support has fallen way short of the expected amounts that generated the support for Measure J by Library supporters. We are all so very puzzled why City leadership consistently says the Library is an important project and should be funded to only have it fall of the priority list year after year. I think the time has come that the large number of users and supporters of the Library deserve an explanation that includes a confirmation of the future of the Library building. I hope this Special Session will include a detailed review and discussion of the Library Renovation and once again City Council will show support for making this project happen in the next and upcoming Fiscal Years. Thank you so much! 6/8/2022 Public Comment Item A Ed McBride Ed.mcbride58@gmail.com 6/8/2022 Public Comment Item A From:Jana FitzGerald To:City Clerk Subject:Palm Springs should do better for its kids, and invest in parks! Date:Wednesday, June 8, 2022 9:47:36 AM NOTICE: This message originated outside of The City of Palm Springs -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe. In December 2021, I relocated to Palm Springs with my husband and toddler daughter. I was born and raised here, but moved away to go to college and have not lived here since. There are some things that I am glad to see have not changed in the 18 years since I left. But the state of the parks here is not one of them. As an adult, I have lived in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area. These areas share a rich tradition of public parks, and I was grateful to take advantage of them. My daughter will not remember her earliest days, but many were spent in park systems designed with children in mind. I love Palm Springs. I am excited to be raising my daughter here--and also that other families (certainly many more than when I was growing up) are doing the same. I want local parks to enrich her life the way they have mine. What might that look like, here in the desert? Park area with proper shade structure, to start, so that children can play in safety. It could also look like regular clean-ups, so that children are not encountering trash--some of it dangerous--while digging in the sand. I write to ask that the city prioritize children, and commit some of its funds to improve the local parks so that my daughter, and the lovely kids we have met since moving here, have a safe and inclusive place to go. 6/8/2022 Public Comment Item A From:Michael Hirschbein To:City Clerk Subject:Public comment for tomorrow’s budget meeting Date:Tuesday, June 7, 2022 5:01:08 PM NOTICE: This message originated outside of The City of Palm Springs -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe.
