Hi there. I think i had a bad connection or feedback. Sorry.
Here is my public comment on item 2A to city council:
Good evening Mayor Middleton and City Council members. My name is Jeff Jones. I reside at
372 South Belardo Rd. In the historic tennis club neighborhood. My comments concerns
item 2A regarding a proposed nightclub at 383 South Palm Canyon. My location and the
residences at 373 South Palm Canyon together make up the Orleans Apartments property.
I was surprised and disappointed to learn the applicant for the Fuego NIghtclub is appealing
the Planning Commission’s decision last month denying their application. Though it is
completely within in their right to do so, my neighbors and I remain strongly opposed to the
idea of creating a nightclub venue in the historic Bank Building at 383 South Palm Canyon. As
many of us commented during the commission’s meeting last month, this would devastate
our quality of life. The Bank building is not just next door to the Orleans, the structures are
literally adjoined on the Palm Canyon side of the property. Photos were sent earlier today
for your review. In them, you clearly see the close proximity of these two properties.
We remain unconvinced any measures being promised by the applicant would adequately
control noise pollution for the residents and the neighborhood. The proposed hours of
operation are exclusively in the evening and into the AM. Imagine trying to sleep next door
to that. Also, parking, being the issue it is in the area, club goers are going to add to this
issue without a doubt.
The neighbors I’ve spoken with are not opposed to revitalization in our neighborhood -
including for the Bank building - however, a nightclub is the worst idea we can imagine. A
nightclub would be a nightmare for us. We’re hopeful you will hear our concerns, consider
the consequences of a nightclub carefully,, and deny this appeal. Thank you.
Kindest Regards,
Jeff Denean Jones, CTA
