TO: Mayor and Council Members FROM: Paula Auburn DATE: 4-4-2022 RE: COD OWNED LAND ADJACENT TO DESERT HIGHLANDS GATEWAY ESTATES I will not be able to attend or Zoom your upcoming Thursday Council meeting. How many ways is the COD sale of this land wrong? Oh let me count the ways!! 1.The City spent $2 M of taxpayer money to purchase this land for a COD campus. 2.The land was given, free, to COD for a campus. 3.When that campus construction fell through COD kept the land. 4.How is it COD gets to enrich their pockets at the expense of Palm Springs taxpayers!!! 5.At the very least this land should be ceded back to Palm Springs. 6.The developer proposes a large housing development with prices that are not affordable to low wage workers or the residents of DHGE. 7.The need is for affordable low-income and moderate-income housing. 8.NOTHING should be done without full approval of the DHGE resident association. Thank you for your consideration of this very important issue.4/7/2022 Public Comment Item 3A Paula Auburn 1369 Campeon Circle, PS 92262 760-464-4494 4/7/2022 Public Comment Item 3A From:City of Palm Springs To:City Clerk; City Clerk Subject:*NEW SUBMISSION* Submit Public Comment to the City of Palm Springs Date:Thursday, April 7, 2022 2:45:26 PM NOTICE: This message originated outside of The City of Palm Springs -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe. Full Name/Nombre JEROME BRAUN City of Residence/Ciudad de residencia Palm Springs, Phone (optional) /Teléfono (opcional) 7608081180 Email (optional/opcional) jerbraun@hotmail.com Your Comments/Sus comentarios I am a Palm Springs resident, residing full time in the Sunrise Park Neighborhood. I know that the President of the College of the Desert is presenting today. It is crucial that the west valley COD project move forward in an expeditious manner for these reasons: 1) There are students in this area who need and deserve the opportunity for higher education resources close to home. This location is not only close to Palm Springs but also to Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs and Cabazon. It is also adjacent to PS High School, an easy transition for those students. Decide what programs are of greatest interest to these students and move ahead. 2) As a Palm Springs taxpayer, when this bond was brought forward, we were told it was for the development of this campus. It is time to make good on this promise. 3) My neighborhood, Sunrise Park, is just 1 block from this future COD site. It's an eyesore and an embarrassment. This site cannot be like this for 5 years. Move this ahead now! Thank you Thank you, City of Palm Springs This is an automated message generated by Granicus. COD -- campus. I live right nearby and am watching the live feed of the public comment on what happened to the promised COD. I want to know why just today they are cutting down the trees in that empty lot? Who is doing that - the city? Please let me know what's going on and I hope the city starts thinking about using this lot for something else as obviously the COD is not fulfilling their promises (are they even on this feed?) Thank you for your time.
