Dear council members,
Please consider banning all fireworks in the city of Palm Springs. These are so terrible for dogs, cats,
wildlife and people with PTSD. There are very sophisticated light shows that are even more
spectacular than fireworks. I know last year's laser show needed work, but with plenty of time, I'm
sure that this year's can be fantastic! Please consider moving to only laser shows. Thank you for your
time.

Dear Mayor and City Council members,
I am commenting on Item 4A on the agenda regarding firework permits.
am very much against permitting fireworks for events and such. They are bad for the environment, terrible for
wildlife, terrifying for pets (I've witnessed the horrific effects many times!) and certain people with PTSD. I am
asking that you please vote against allowing firework permits for any reason.
I have seen the comments that people make saying they only last a few minutes but I can tell you, from
experience, that terror does not go away just because the booms have stopped. Please let's evolve. Light
shows are COOL!

Dear Mayor Middleton, Mayor Pro Tem Garner and Councilmembers,
I am writing to ask that you please limit the number of fireworks shows in the City of Palm Springs to two celebrations
per year, Veteran's Day and Independence Day. I, along with many other community members, expressed my opposition
to fireworks displays at both the May 6 and September 9, 2021 council meetings. I recognize and respect the importance
of fireworks displays to our country's brave veterans and active duty service members, understanding the traditional
significance of fireworks on these national holidays.
appreciate the efforts of city staff to research the impact of fireworks on air quality. The negative, at times deadly,
impact of fireworks on wildlife is also well documented. Wildlife species in the Coachella Valley are already suffering
greatly from habitat loss from destruction, fragmentation and degradation, climate change, invasive species, disease,
and pollution.
Fireworks can trigger post -traumatic stress disorder in victims of gun violence and also in some combat veterans. This,
too, is well known, if not often discussed or even disclosed by those affected.
Many of us can personally attest to the negative effect of fireworks on our beloved pets. We hunker down at home with
our furry family members, soothing music playing loudly in an effort to drown out the terrifying booms and blasts.
Fireworks displays near our Palm Springs Animal Shelter cause distress for the animals, requiring staff and volunteers to
provide additional comfort and care.
In addition to limiting the number of large displays to twice per year, Veteran's Day and Independence Day, additional
effort is needed to stop the illegal backyard (and sometimes front yard) private fireworks displays throughout our city.
These sporadic, loud and dangerous displays have continued year after year throughout our city neighborhoods with
little to no consequence. Many residents, and visitors, do not even realize that backyard fireworks are illegal.
Please limit the fireworks to Veteran's Day and Independence Day, with displays far from both wildlife and residential
areas. There are better, more humane and safer ways to celebrate a high school homecoming, cheer on our local
baseball players, and joyfully express our happiness at fundraisers, weddings and dance parties.
Respectfully,

Hi Geoff,
Last night, PSHS celebrated their graduation with a fireworks show. It was fun to watch
and I love fireworks. However, my pup Tassos did not enjoy them and it took me quite
some time to calm him down. The fireworks really scared him.
I'm sure it's the "booms" that scare him and not the lights/flashes. Fireworks without the
booms would be better, or some other form of entertainment such as lasers could be
interesting. I hope the Council will look at other pet -friendly options for the Fourth of
July.
Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend, and please forward this email to Lisa, Dennis,
Christy and Grace.

Hi Geoff. Thanks, as always, for doing your bes to represent the people of this city in what must be
very trying times.
I initially questioned PS's decision to move from fireworks to lasers during the 4th of July festivities.
But after going through a course to be certified as a Trauma -Informed Coach and spending the entire
afternoon "show" comforting our dog with anxiety, I must say please never, ever let fireworks happen
in the City of Palm Springs again.
Our new residence is at the corner of Indian Canyon and Alejo, mere feet from the launch spot of the
fireworks today. Or so it seemed. The sound of the fireworks, which normally does not bother me,
was so loud I thought we were underneath them. And the impact on our poor dog who suffers anxiety
was gut -wrenching. I felt helpless to comfort him with the barrage of noise going on right outside our
windows. I was initially very angry, but I realize you have to please people who fail to understand and
who may not care to understand what this does to people and creatures with anxiety. For the record,
it is terrible. And it's completely avoidable.
I urge you to ban fireworks in this city for the duration of life on this planet. And I do not exaggerate.
These pretty things come with a big consequence to anyone who suffers anxiety, PTSD, or has
survived trauma, especially trauma involving gunshots.

belabor the point. I trust you will advocate to move us in the direction of healing and kindness, and I

decision based on scientific data and not personal preference. (And the same goes for the statue of

I'm happy to provide testimony or data to support my position to you, your colleagues, or any other
body within the City that is interested in using evidence to support sound decision -making.

The Palm Springs Fourth of July fireworks celebration has been so great every year that we've had it. It's a great family
get together to celebrate our nations birthday. The community enjoys the tradition as well. Please go back to having
the traditional fireworks.
Thanks,

I'd like to comment on the continued use of fireworks at events in the city of PalmSprings. As a 20 year resident of both the city of
Palm Springs and the larger community, fireworks have always been a family oriented draw to special events like parades and
baseball games. It would be a shame to exclude current and future children from the fun and wonder of the show. I have been at
events, notably the 4th of July, where many persons I spoke with were there specifically for the fireworks. Some make a weekend
trip of it. As a result, Palm Springs is more vibrant with additional tax revenue and goodwill in the community.
Thank you,
City of Palm Springs
