Initial deadline for draft maps Deadline for the public to submit draft maps for inclusion in the next hearing packet and presentation 4. Final public hearing Public Hearing to discuss and revise, or adopt the draft map(s) 5. acceptable range of 10% at 7.90% •Preserves the core of existing districts •Closely aligns with the current boundaries. •Retains District 1 as a combined majority/minority (non- white) district •Minimizes the number of people moving between districts •Keeps community neighborhoods together July 28, 2021 20 Timeline & Next Steps •Provide input on the proposed options •Continue to evaluate publicly submitted maps •Revise any proposed options as requested by Council •Return at Public Hearing #3 for further review of proposed maps 21 September 20, 2021 Adjusted Census Data released to the Council Meeting of December 9, 2021 OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK Statement of Principles OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK Goals •Maximize the goals of the (CVRA) Federal Voting Rights Act and FAIR Maps Act, including civil rights, equality, and inclusion. •Prioritize the creation of minority/majority districts. •To the extent practical, keep organized neighborhoods intact. •Maintain the principle that the best interest of the City as a whole remains the first responsibility of all elected officials. Process •Evaluate our current structure of government and demographics, compare with and learn from other comparable cities and recommend the structure of government that best achieves the goals of the CVRA and the long-term needs of our City. •Encourage and work through communication platforms to obtain participation from as many residents and stakeholders as possible in the process.
