RE: Desert Sun article 12/1/2021 Downtown Business meeting While I applaud the efforts of Judy Anniballi and other downtown businesses to meet to discuss the homeless/drug addiction problem affecting businesses one notable omission in any discussions outlined in the Desert Sun article: who are the drug dealers who are allowed to continue to supply the drugs to this group? Is there any plans from the City to go to the actual source of the problem. While Anniballi acknowledges the 'bigger issue of a very heavy drug -addicted crowd....' Nowhere does she actually point to the source of who supplies these people with the drugs. Do our city officials condone drug sales by the drug dealers? To my knowledge, drug dealing is illegal and addressing the source of drug sales should be a #1 priority of this business group, Main Street Association and the city. Let's admit it — non -housed individuals will continue to be a problem which needs to be addressed. Drug dealers and addiction must be made part of any solutions and having a plan to eradicate the illegal drug selling must be enforced or the City needs to come clean and let the public know that the supply side of drug sales are O.K. with them. It appears to me that the time in NOW to address this elephant in the room — drug dealing is NOT O.K. and is illegal and the City/downtown businesses/Chamber of Commerce all have to develop a policy in dealing with this issue which is only getting worse — our residents, voters, visitors and business owners deserve better. Drugs don't just appear out of thin air. Is anyone in the city willing to really address this issue? Respectfully - David Carden, jr. Dear Council; The situation of the street addicted is ridiculous! It's time council takes action! Recently, I witnessed another aggressive street addict at the Ralph's Smoke Tree. He was unmasked, inside the store terrorizing a clerk -who was trying to help someone buy groceries. The clerk couldn't leave his post, so had to stand there and be abused. The language was obscene and we were all subjected to the filth. The dangerous addict left, but continued his tirade all the way out the door. The residents of Palm Springs, certainly don't need addicts roaming the streets but we sure need the services of the workers who are subjected to this all over the city. I wouldn't blame the clerk if he transferred to another location outside Palm Springs's, where they don't coddle and enable the addicts, the way this Council does. Once outside, he was turning over shopping carts, kicking at things and shoving the chairs used by people to eat. He then, turned his tirade on a unsuspecting women who was exiting a store. However, she wasn't having this nonsense and stood her ground, while he then stood there cussing her out. While this was going on, I called the police. The last I saw him, he was entering the vacant old bank building on the corner. You know the vacant one; that was just approved after years, to be demolished. I don't know if he got in, but I hope the police caught up with him. I suspect this building will become a target for the addicts, as so many other vacant building around the city. They have so many places to choose from. This is not the only aggressive addict or panhandler I've witnessed. It is ridiculous they have more rights than the voters who reside, own property and pay taxes! I don't want to hear that you and Council are doing everything possible. That isn't true. There are other cities in the valley, I spend time in, that do not enable the addicts. They do not put up with the abuse and terror these people illicit. Its time to take action and remove these people from harming others. Enough is enough and I expect results not double talk. Mark Coleman P.O. Box 4975 Palm Springs, CA 92263 IUM NO. Hello I am a 7th grade student at Thomas Starr King Middle School. I would like for you and your team to focus on the issue of homeless population. It is honestly very concerning. Now I live in Palm Springs half of the time and I feel that this is a big problem. I am not even allowed to walk alone. There is this one street where people call "the ghetto street". This is the hard truth. If I want to go to a store I have to go to the other side. Because many people go here on vacation this is NOT the type of Palm Springs people want to see. It is getting out of hand. Yes, it is sad for the homeless but this cannot keep on going on. I suggest that maybe you open homeless shelters or even just kick them out of there. Like it said: It's the HARD TRUTH. I look forward to hearing from yo. My husband and I moved from Los Angeles to La Quinta in August of this year. We enjoy experiencing the many shopping and dining opportunities. We were especially glad to escape the mask mandates in LA County. It so nice to be able to walk into a shop or restaurant and be able to breath freely. That is until we drove into Palm Springs with some friends to dine. We were surprised and disappointed to find that the city is enforcing mask wearing. There are many studies showing that wearing a mask does not protect one against viruses. In fact, that warning it is printed directly on the box of disposable masks restaurants offer to their customers. So why does the city of Palm Springs force its citizens and visitors to wear a useless mask? As long as this ridiculous ordinance is in place I will not set foot in PS. I will take my business elsewhere. Dear member of the City Council, I am so upset about the proposed division of the Coachella Valley in the draft redistricting proposals put out this week. I ask you to oppose the new maps and put any pressure that you can possibly bring to bear on the redistricting committee to go back to the drawing board, at least as far as our valley goes. This is the text of the message I sent to the committee on the online comment board: This new draft of the district maps will do much harm to the Coachella Valley. It is essential that any redrawing of our redistricts keeps the Coachella Valley communities together, and connected to the Salton Sea. We are one community and one economic unit, sharing all kinds of government and social services, and the district lines as drawn would reduce efficiency and cooperation between our cities, as well as increase the difficulty of making important environmental decisions to mitigate climate change. All of the cities of the Coachella Valley will be seriously affected by the deterioration of the Salton Sea, and we must have one strong voice in Congress advocating for its restoration. The way the maps are drawn right now would split some valley cities from others, with no geographic rationale, and would lessen the ability of our congressman to represent the whole region. We need a single congressman who answers to the entire valley who will support legislation to protect the environment and public health, as well as increase federal funding for Salton Sea Restoration. What this redistricting plan will do is weaken our voice, both at the state and regional levels, and on the national level, by dividing us and giving our voting capacity over to other regions, regions which will not necessarily vote with our needs in mind. Please oppose these new maps, and make your voices heard! Thank you, Susan St Louis 688 S Indian Trail Palm Springs IIIZoZ( t1ol c. Mostly standard filler such as beans, rice, etc., probably bought from sysco.com and heated, dice settings. price starts at about $18 a plate. Their excuse for asking for vaccination paperwork is that the city requires it. They don't have any apologies posted about the restaurant stating they fully do not accept it. That they realize these mandates are done not for our health along with links to the CDC with questions to think about. Or talk about how the vaccinated young are dying off from heart attacks while playing sports. I stongly am against any smoking in multi units whether they are apartments, Condominiums, or multiplexes. Second hand smoke is worse than the orginal smoke. I am currently an owner in Condo develpment here in Palm Springs. Our walls are so thin that smoke travels through them. The HOA states there is nothing they can legally do about people smoking inside their homes or out on their patios. I am highly allergic to smoke and may need to consider moving as I cannot tolerate the smoke as it travels through the walls into my Condo. Even when people are on their patios smoking outside the smoke travels into the condo. So I am all for banning smoking in multi units whether rented or owned. These out of synch, sad case people need to be taken off our streets & kept away from downtown & residential areas ... something needs to ensure this happens. What legal means are available, I'll leave up the city to hopefully fast track as the increased vagrant situation is now frankly unacceptable & ought to be intolerable for the city administration. b) Re: Martha's Village/Boxing club More portable toilets have been placed, unscreened by the buildings entrance. This is NOT a good optic for visitors or residents to view! Nor is the 'Welcome' to the homeless gaudy banner placed facing the street. Personally I find it quite offensive to constantly see this( I live at Ramon & El. Cielo) & so it negatively impacts my quality of life here-I expect I'm not alone in thinking this way. This drop-in usage should make more efforts to be discreet( no banners & porta potties placed to the rear vs. the front). Palm Springs needs to utilize any & all necessary means to become known as an upscale city that does N OT seek to cater to mentally disturbed people who wander the streets with impunity, most likely unvaccinated & therefore a serious & life endangering health risk to us all in this dire Covid era.
