If we wanted to follow that logic then the mandate at bars and restaurants and clubs would be to remask when not eating. That is not the case. You could be at a club dancing the night away for hours and not drink once but have your mask off the entire time. These inconsistent mandates and rules are why people need to make their own choices and follow county rules. Palm Springs city council should stay out it. Please forward to the council. At the the gym you do not need to take your mask off and that's why it's different. I agree that these restrictions are difficult. I asked many questions about this on the dais but ultimately the council wants more time to see if there will continue to be a downward trend. It will be reviewed again at the December council meeting. Best, Grace Sent from my iPhone On Oct 29, 2021, at 16:52, pssibarda@gmail.com wrote: 1 a 2 L Z°Z1 VV0011 VvVA1A- rMM NO. I'm so disappointed at the city's vote last night. Can you explain to me why I can show a vaccine card and drink and dance in a bar, but I can't show one at my gyms and all customers have to mask? This is very inconsistent and makes no scientific sense. What am I not understanding? Thanks for your input. I would like to submit a comment to the agenda item regarding the present covid restrictions being discussed on the City Counsel meeting on 10/28. I maintain that the City Counsel is not demonstrating thought leadership by using personal opinion and surveys instead of metrics and science to administer covid protocols. I understand the council will present covid metrics at the meeting. HOWEVER policy being based on personal interpretation of those metrics on an ad hoc basis. Instead the City Counsel should develop target metrics for easing restrictions, similar to the way Gavin Newsome developed a color coded system for easing restrictions. This removes personal opinion and basis easing restrictions on metrics and science. Likewise the idea of relying on a survey to establish policy shows poor thought leadership. This is not the Best of The Desert popularity contest. It's clear that public opinion is divided and based on individual opinion not science. There were also no controls in administering the survey to obtain accurate and honest results. I for one submitted the survey no less that 10 times, because nobody said I couldn't —there were no controls. So therefore the survey results are inaccurate. The Palm Springs City Counsel needs to do better on this issue. They are demonstrating poor thought leadership on managing covid restrictions and are clearly and unnecessarily hindering our return to normalcy. Dear City Council and Staff, Almost 2 years ago, it all started with one single human infection. Today, it has infected many millions around the world causing death and serious injury. It goes in waves, even with vaccines as one of our best tools. Other countries with far better vaccination rates are experiencing very serious surges once again. Many remain especially vulnerable. Hopefully soon the all the mitigation routines can come to an end. Now is too soon. Please keep the order as it is for now. Pandemic/Endemic... it's still a thing. We are 75 and 74 years old .... and have already had Covid, and now have the natural immunity. We live in Cathedral City .... near the Palm Springs border and frequent restaurants 3-4 times a week. As we are not allowed to enter your restaurants .... because we do not have a vaccination card. I feel that you are infringing on our rights. And we tell all our friends not to dine in Palm Springs. Even though many of them have been vaccinated. They don't want to exclude us .... so we all dine together at other restaurants outside of Palm Springs. We especially frequent those on El Paseo in Palm Desert. We used to dine at Melvin's, Lu-Lu's, Sherman's, Las Casuelas, etc. But! Not any more. Oh! I'm from Orange County (I still have a home in Seal Beach) .... and plan on telling all my friends there ..... to not stay in Palm Springs. As they will not be allowed to eat there..... if they don't have the vaccination card. Oh ..... and we can't join them in any of the Palm Springs restaurants ...... So! I'll recommend other hotels and restaurants in other cities. I pray that you change your mind. And I pray that you don't have any bad repercussions from taking the "so-called" vaccine. They are inconsistant across all areas. I'm especially concerned about the mandate for people working out in gyms to have to mask. This is unhealthy and is killing the businesses of the gyms in Palm Springs who have been sited and are enforcing the mandates. Our neighboring cities do not have these mandates. I want to stay healthy and workout but I can't with a mask on. However, I can show a vaccine card and go to a club or bar in the city. This makes no sense. Let gyms either ask for vaccine cards so we don't have to mask as those in bars do or let each patron decide for him/herself what protections are needed. It is not the job of the city council to regulate my health and impose impossibly unfair mandates on its citizens. Please remove this mandate today.
